"A small, free, peaceful, collection of costume and cultural information. Housed in an ostentatious settlers port authority building called the Hamilton building after Alexander Hamilton. Renaming the building after a Native American would have been a good gesture by the Smithsonian. Fabulous examples of clothing and beading, I didn't notice information about dance, music, child rearing, diet. It improved my knowledge, and left me with more questions than it answered. One wing was closed, I'm guessing that wing holds the answers"
"I can definitely say that I was interested in this museum. Admission was free on Sunday. On the other days of the week, we need to clarify. The history of the locals of the American continent, which is conveyed in their traditions, national clothes, in their household items, in their weapons and jewelry - all this aroused our real interest and admiration."
"Lovely museum. Fascinating artifacts and great perspective of American History. Interesting stories and quotes from native ppl. It was also cool to see native art/artifacts from the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South American. The children's portion was fantastic. My kids really enjoyed it."
"Enriching Experience at the National Museum of the American Indian Visiting the National Museum of the American Indian in New York was a deeply enriching and educational experience. Located in the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House, the museum itself is a stunning architectural marvel that sets the stage for the incredible journey through Native American history and culture. From the moment I entered, I was captivated by the diverse and extensive collection of artifacts, artwork, and exhibits that beautifully represent the rich heritage and traditions of Native American peoples. The museum does an excellent job of showcasing the incredible diversity of indigenous cultures across the Americas, from the Arctic to South America. One of the highlights for me was the “Infinity of Nations” exhibit, which features over 700 objects from across the hemisphere. Each piece is meticulously curated and presented with detailed descriptions that provide deep insights into the cultural and historical significance of the items. The blend of traditional and contemporary art forms creates a dynamic and engaging experience for visitors of all ages. The museum also offers a variety of interactive displays and multimedia presentations that make learning about Native American history both accessible and engaging. I found the storytelling sections particularly moving, as they offer personal perspectives and narratives that bring the history to life. The staff at the museum are knowledgeable, welcoming, and passionate about the stories and cultures they represent. Their enthusiasm and expertise greatly enhanced my visit, as they were always willing to answer questions and provide additional context for the exhibits. Another notable aspect is the museum's commitment to education and community engagement. The various programs, workshops, and events they host are fantastic opportunities for both locals and tourists to deepen their understanding and appreciation of Native American cultures. Overall, my visit to the National Museum of the American Indian was a profound and inspiring experience. It's a must-visit destination for anyone interested in history, art, and culture. I left with a greater appreciation for the resilience, creativity, and contributions of Native American peoples throughout history."
"Nice museum. It's a Smithsonian and admission is free. We went here immediately after arriving in New York. We were tired and hot. It was quite warm inside the museum. I don't think we saw the entire thing, but what we did see was interesting. Not crowded at all. Easy to get to via subway and a short walk. There is a security screening upon arrival. No tickets required. The museum gift shop was great. I made a few purchases here. They had some amazing things. Worth a stop."
