Reviews
"Great history- not packed but not lit, can hardly see anything except dirt on the glass. Needs lighting to appreciate."
"I really want to give this 5 stars because it is awesome that they let the public see this old 1670's tavern, however the site really needs some work. You can hardly see the plaques below the glass. It is still cool to see the ruins of a 17th century tavern in downtown NY but I wish they would have done more."
"Remnants of three buildings that used to stand on this site. They are preserved through glass cases and have some plaque to commemorate this location."
"Nice archaeological spot in Manhattan. It is always astonishing to find the historic remaining of the previous civilisation in the middle of the contemporary urbanisation."
"If you want to know more about this important dig, a first for urban archaeology in NYC back in 1979-1980, you can check out a couple of interesting posts from the Museum of the City of New York and the NYC Department of Records and Information Services respectively. Each has great photos of the aggregated collection of artifacts found and a photo of the site as it looked when still a parking lot before construction of the then new Goldman Sachs HQ, which began in 1983. https://blog.mcny.org/2016/04/19/smoking-drinking-and-governing-archaeology-of-the-lovelace-tavern/ And here is the other: https://newamsterdamstories.archives.nyc/blog/archaeology-stories-lovelace-tavern You can access the report through the Landmarks Preservation Commission by searching on Stad Huys"
