"The people working here are selectively racist. A few weeks ago I had to go file a harassment case against my slumlord. I was there at 10am, waited 20 mins to be given some forms to complete and I returned them well before 11am. 30 mins later they told me that a form was missing (they forgot to give it to me) so I took more time to fill it up and return and wait on queue. When they finally checked my forms, they asked me to complete another form which I already had completed. Long story short, they finally accept my paperwork at 12:30pm and tell me that I have to wait until 2:30pm the earliest for the judge to sign because everyone goes to lunch between 1 and 2:30pm. I waited until 3:30pm, I waited for so long that an obviously homeless and jobless person started picking up on me after a young man talked to me, telling me that I'm lucky anyone even wanted to talk to me, telling others that I'm manipulative (?!?) and that "my pale flesh" is worthless (?!) and other misogynistic and racist slurs and insults. Their reaction was to call a police officer on me rather than on the guy who was harassing me! They finally agreed to give me my paperwork and a case number after the incident and after I was put in danger and on wait for the entire day. These people are incapable and unwilling to do their job, and considering the nature of their job (helping people already in need) they should not be interacting with them. If you are a nice decent person who needs to go to the court because of the sorry situation with renting in our city, please consider doing so with a friend."
"Pretty clear it's the landlord that's getting the short end in NYC. Just got my tenant out 5 days ago. She owed me $45,000 in rent and kept calling the courts to see when the warrant was approved by the court. Marshal told me they won't pursue until the second warrant was issued by the court for the John and Jane Does. 7 months after getting a judgement against her she left on her own so I can sell the house now. Paid my lawyer $1500 for 2 useless warants now. Because of this I will never rent again in New York City. I just put it up for sale 3 days ago."
"No justice found in courts. Only injustice, inefficiency, and waste of time. The judge and court workers don't care about justice. They are slow and carefree like they are on vacation destination. I saw the workers celebrated a birthday in office while not attending their work/customers. While my case dragged on for 8 months and no updates. The tenants didn't even answer in court and are living rent-free."
"I always thought that the laws in the United States were fair and just, but the housing court in New York excessively favors tenants who don't pay rent, which is incredibly disappointing! The speed of the court proceedings is as slow as a snail, private property isn't protected, and small landlords who diligently pay taxes don't even have a chance to argue for themselves in court. My tenants owe me $56,000 in rent for 14 months, and absurdly, they not only refuse to pay rent but also demand $50,000 from me just to move out. I had hope in the court, but it has already held three hearings without reaching a verdict. I'm not receiving any rent money, yet I'm still responsible for property taxes, insurance, maintenance fees, and various other expenses. Judges of the housing court, do you understand the predicament of small landlords like us? Isn't everyone supposed to be equal under the law?"
"No justice, no fairness. Serious problems there. Tanents using the rent to buy luxury items. Judges protect them. Drag the court days so long. Keep letting tanants postponing the court date. Asking landlords to waive the back rent. Leaving the landlord suffer everything. Small landlords are relying on the rent to pay the mortgage, pay the property tax and bills. Landlords are human being as well, Landlords need to eat too, Landlords kids to be fed too. Be more fair to us."
