Welcome to Gateway Park, your gateway to vibrant community living in Jersey City! Located at 40 Merseles Street, Jersey City, New Jersey, Gateway Park has been empowering residents in the planning, implementation, and care of local parks and open spaces since 2005. As the city’s non-profit partner for parks, we are dedicated to enhancing the beauty and functionality of Jersey City's 67 open spaces.

At Gateway Park, we manage a variety of activities and events, maintain lush gardens, advocate for safe playgrounds, and work to preserve the rich history of our parks. Our efforts are supported by a passionate network of community volunteers across 29 member parks. Every year, hundreds of residents come together for National Make A Difference Day, one of the largest annual single-day service events nationwide. In Fall 2021, over 16,000 tulip, daffodil, and allium bulbs were planted by Jersey City residents as part of the #JCBigDig initiative.

In recognition of our commitment to urban forestry, Jersey City was awarded the Tree City USA designation by the National Arbor Day Foundation in April 2022. With the City of Trees initiative, we aim to plant 5,000 trees across the city, contributing to improved air quality and a greener environment. Our advocacy work with the Jersey City Shade Tree Committee focuses on preserving shade trees and their benefits for current and future residents.

Although Jersey City currently has a 14% tree canopy coverage, our collaborative network of leaders is developing innovative strategies to manage and expand our urban forest. Open spaces like the Harsimus Cemetery and the Embankment further our mission of building vibrant communities.
