"This site, at the corner of Greene and Morgan Streets in Jersey City, was the home of the Fulton Foundry, (see the photo below, which is of a historical marker sign in Jersey City). This location used to be closer to the waterfront, a lot of fill has since been added to build up more waterfront. What was Fulton Foundry was (I believe) at the site of #37 in the 1883 birdseye view map of Jersey City (labeled in 1883 as "Dodge & Bliss..."). The Fulton Foundry worked with another company (or was owned by it, it is unclear) Called Zeno Secor & Co. which launched several ironclad monitors for the Union Navy. One of these was USS Weehawken, which captured CSS Atlanta on the latter's maiden voyage after it ran aground. Here's an excerpt from the New York Times dated August 21, 1864 on the launch and trial run of the Mahopac, which was also built at the site:..."The Mahopac is the last of the fine monitors built by ZENO SECOR & CO., of the Fulton Foundry Iron Works, Jersey City, and is supposed to be, in many respects, an improvement upon the others -- the Manhattan, Tecumseh, Weshawken [sic], Camanche, Mahopac, and Mohongo.""
"Haven't been there but now I want to visit."
