Hoboken Building Permits

"I had a great experience with both Mrs. Martinez and Mr . Patruno . Yes, you have to get an appointment to bring your applications and they will send you back if it's incomplete ,but... I think that saves you the common headache that I had in other towns where they accept partial things and when you bring the additional documents they get lost and it takes much longer to put everything together. Here , I got it approved in under 2 weeks . They do run a tight ship , but they keep their word and inspection appointment . I have opened 3 permits in the last 3 months there. Thank you ."

"This department is tough but I think they are improving! I've completed two permits here and the second time around was easier than the first. When I would call to make an appointment, they had openings readily available. The first time, it was an opening weeks later. They are pleasant on the phone. However, when coming in for a plan review, they don't really keep the appointments punctual. Be on time but if you're running late, its probably OK. I've had an appointment at 9:30 and be seen by them at 10:15. And then you have to get to that desk before the guy with the appointment at 10:00. When you are at the desk, the inspectors don't have your undivided attention, they come and go. Its not ideal, but that's how they do things? Be patient and bring something to read because you will most likely need to wait. Please let me be clear: this place is difficult (especially if you're new to it) and other towns and cities in NJ have been much easier than Hoboken. It was worse though and seems to be getting better."

"This has to be the WORST D.O.B. in NJ. I submit permits for every project we do. Normally its quick within 3-4days they call me , come pick up your permits they are ready. Its been over a month now and the permits are not approved yet. I am not building a home , just remodeling a bathroom. It appears there is only one employee there and he is overworked."
