Represented by Council Member Carlina Rivera, our district is dedicated to fostering community engagement and addressing the unique needs of our neighborhoods. Born and raised on the Lower East Side, Carlina Rivera brings a deep understanding and passion for the community she serves. Her journey began in afterschool programming, where she worked with children in high-needs schools, and continued as the Director of Programs and Services at Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES), focusing on social justice initiatives for older adults and homeless New Yorkers.

Council Member Rivera has a proven track record of uniting people to improve resources and well-being, whether through community board participation, organizing local initiatives, or securing funding for critical projects like the East River waterfront resiliency post-Hurricane Sandy. Her leadership was instrumental in coordinating recovery efforts for thousands of residents affected by disasters in the area.

Currently, Council Member Rivera serves as Chair of the Committee on Cultural Affairs, Libraries, and International Intergroup Relations, reflecting her commitment to cultural enrichment and community development. Our office at New York City Hall, along with our district office at 250 Broadway, stands ready to assist and collaborate with residents to build a stronger, more resilient East Side.
