"While the scope of the Main 9/11 Museum is comprehensive, the Workshop is far more intimate because it is HANDS ON. The main Museum DOESN'T ALLOW PHOTOGRAPHY of most personal effects and objects recovered from Ground Zero; the Workshop allows items to be touched and photographed. It's a very different level of connection & one worth paying for. This small Workshop was the brainchild of Gary Suson (Official Photographer At Ground Zero for the FDNY and is actually his converted studio- which is also a bit of a time capsule from 2001/2002. According to the docent, he stops by often and was inspired by the small Ann Frank Museum in Amsterdam. He has hit the sweet-spot with this Workshop as it offers a day-in‐day-out, personally narrated view of the recovery effort from a man who's only job (for months) was to document that monumental and heartbreaking effort. AMAZING JOB MR. SUSON! I can't wait to meet you, sir."
"I'm connected to New York since so many years, with my good friends they've lost beloved onces in this tragedy that shocked the world and myself until today and it will never go away. I'm so thankful for this detailed documentary with all the pieces and the very personal stories. This is a space that honors so many they've made the ultimate sacrifice and we can't even imagine. For me it was and still is and will always be a personal and touching experience and I will come back, just to say "hello" and "thank you" to Maja (she was an amazing host and very kind to us) and Gary Maron Suson the photographer. You've done an amazing job here and thank you for creating this museum. It was a rollercoaster for me with goosebumps and tears coming and going. But it was also a relief to experience it in this museum with headphones and hearing the personal story on my ears.Thank you so much. Sascha -- I've put a piece I got from you on my wall for the 9/11 memories."
"This museum dedicated to the 911 attacks might be the best privately curated museum I've toured in years. The man that owns and operates this Gary and he comes to this from an amazing perspective. He was the photographer given all access and permission to shoot photographs within ground zero. He was right down in the mud during the investigation, remains recovery and salvage operations. He has in depth and personal knowledge of the situation very few people had or ever will have. He was eve made an honorary battalion chief by FDNY. He has artifacts rarely seen anyplace else and many of them you can actually touch. Gary is there, in person while you tour his museum. He gives you an audio guide that is simple and easy to use. That guide gives you personal and in depth info on every artifact and every photograph. All narrated, personally, by him. So much of the info and details brings up really strong emotions as he doesn't sugar coat anything. The feelings and information is direct and honest. It's a very emotional tour. Gary feels a personal responsibility to tell this story as fate put him and his camera in a unique place, at a unique time. If you want to experience a very personal narration of this tragedy and American history, I highly recommend this tour. I left this museum was a far deeper understanding of the impact on the lives, people and families of those lost on that faithful morning. Thank you so much Gary for what you have done and continue to do."
"This was a truly unique experience, unlike any other museum I've been to. Gary, the museum curator, is there during the tour to answer questions and share his stories. There is something different about a firsthand eyewitness account and being able to touch actual artifacts from Ground Zero. He also has some amazing photographs and does a fantastic job of honoring all who were affected. This will give you a different perspective of this tragic day. It is self-guided so you can spend as little or as much time as you want- did not feel touristy at all and was an amazing tribute to this tragic day. Highly recommend."
"Whilst we were in NYC we did all the main attractions. The 9/11 workshop was by far the most interesting and best value. It may only be a small museum but there was plenty there to engross us for nearly 3 hours. The museum curator Gary really cares about the stories that need to be told regarding the artefacts found during the recovery operation. You learn much more than from the fairly sterile larger 9/11 Museum next to the memorial pools. He was onsite for months during that period and has numerous tales of hope and heartache from those times. The only chance you will get to see and hold real items from the Twin Towers. Thanks Gary for a thought provoking afternoon. Stuart and Natalie in England."
