"It is hard to get an accurate depiction of an entire school as a whole based on one person's interaction especially when the focus is on one experience with a student so beware of those types of impartial very biased reviews. My review is based on my experience with the staff, family involvement, and school offerings in the last two years. Let me start by saying, yesterday was the last day of school and EVERY SINGLE STUDENT got off the bus CRYING because they all said they were going to miss their TEACHERS! They are definitely doing something right. The school has so much to offer as far as family involvement and activities; muffins with mom, donuts with dad, ginger bread nights, movie nights, food and clothes drives, author nights and book readings. The PTO ALWAYS has something going on. They go on field trips throughout the year to the theatre, musicals, the therapy dog Rosie comes regularly, field days, ice cream parties with Mr Softie coming to school. The teachers really Care! Mrs. Dugan & Mrs. Tricia are angels! My son also receives speech and math services for the last two years with Mrs. G & Mrs. Worthington and wow what a difference. There is constant communication; calls home, pictures posted of activities on an app for family access that requires a password code for security, progress letters. My son also qualified for summer school last year and it was for half the day; I told him it was a summer reading camp so that he wasn't discouraged. They made it so fun that I was able to keep that up. The conservatory came with animals several times, therapy dog came several times, they played educational games. He was sad it was over! There is not a single school on the island not affected by poverty in some way. You can't keep your kids in a bubble. It's how the staff and administration handle it. My son had an incident where he was being teased by another student on the bus last year (happens at every school rich or poor, public or private); his teacher handled it by telling the Vice principle and it was handled swiftly- she called the student's parents and also made the student apologize and the other student was moved behind the bus driver. My son and his friends all tell me how much they love going to music, art, and p.e."
