The Kearny Police Department has a rich history dating back to its founding in 1889. Over the years, the department has grown and evolved, adapting to the changing needs of the town it serves. Today, under the leadership of Chief George King, our force comprises over 100 dedicated sworn officers who work tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of Kearny's residents.

Our department is structured into various divisions, each specializing in different aspects of law enforcement. From our active Patrol and Detective Divisions to our specialized Traffic Bureau, we are equipped to handle a wide range of public safety concerns effectively. For those in need of police reports, they are typically available three to five business days after a report has been filed. Reports can be obtained from our Records Bureau, located within the Main Police Building, from Monday to Friday, between 8 AM and 4 PM. Please note that the Records Division is closed on all federal and state holidays. We advise calling ahead at (201) 998-1313 to confirm the availability of your report and to inquire about any associated costs.

The Kearny Police Department emphasizes transparency and integrity. We do not solicit funds over the phone. Any legitimate fundraising efforts for the Kearny PBA Local #21 are conducted via mail, clearly indicating the intended use of funds.
