"I'd never heard of this museum, artist, or international cultural peace movement until just a few days ago. I'll have to do further research of my own volition, despite the vast collection & message. Minus points only for a lack of mass marketing!"
"Wonderful museum with a very large collection of Nicholas Roerich's paintings and some other things. It is put together very neatly and located in a beautiful building. I talked to the worker who was very friendly, knowledgeable, and answered all my questions. Thanks everyone who takes such good care of this special place!"
"An undiscovered hidden jewel in the upper west side, filled with the work of designer/painter/mystic Nicholas Roerich. The place is extremely peaceful, never crowded, and their staff is welcoming. You can sit and gauze at the mystic ruminating and watercolors."
"Decided to visit on a whim. His works are inspirational and majestic; Nicholas Roerich is a hidden gem of an artist. The museum is small but organized and well put-together. Admission is free. I wished there was more about the historical significance about Roerich and more explanation on the meaning of his works. It took less than an hour to get through 2 floors."
"Great small museum on the Upper Westside, commemorating the work and life of Nicholas Roerich (1874-1947). Born in Saint Petersburg, Roerich was educated at St. Petersburg University and the Imperial Academy of Arts. He created the costumes and set for Le Sacre du Printemps by Igor Stravinsky. He later came to the US after the Russian revolution and also traveled widely in Asia, where he became friends with Jawaharlal Nehru and the Gandhi family. He was also promoting the Roerich Pact to protect sites of cultural value. The paintings at the museum are beautiful with particularly beautiful blues."
