The Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria traces its origins back to the first century when St. Mark the Apostle brought the message of Christianity to Egypt, becoming the first Pope of Alexandria. As a proud member of the Oriental Orthodox family, our church is committed to the teachings and traditions that have been preserved through centuries. We emphasize the importance of participating in the holy sacraments, safeguarding the divine mysteries, adhering to the canons of the Holy Scriptures, and upholding the apostolic and Orthodox Creed teachings. The term ‘Copt’ is derived from the ancient Pharaonic word ‘gypt’ and the Greek word ‘Aigyptus,’ both meaning ‘Egypt.’ Our roots are deeply embedded in the land that was visited by Our Lord Jesus Christ. St. Mark's missionary journeys to Egypt laid the foundation for the widespread acceptance of Christianity, beginning with the conversion of Ananias and his household.

Today, the Coptic Orthodox Church of Alexandria is the largest Christian community in the Middle East, with millions of followers worldwide, including over 150 Coptic Orthodox Churches across North America.
