Welcome to Jane Addams High School for Academic Careers

Located at 900 Tinton Avenue in the vibrant Bronx neighborhood of New York, Jane Addams High School for Academic Careers has a storied legacy of empowering students with practical skills and academic knowledge. Established in 1937, our school was dedicated to preparing students for successful careers in hairdressing, nursing, tourism, and business. Despite challenges in the early 2000s, including declining enrollment and a scandal in 2011, our commitment to education remained steadfast until the school officially closed in 2015.

The legacy of Jane Addams High School continues through the building's current occupants: The School for Tourism and Hospitality and New Visions Charter High School for Advanced Math and Science II. Both schools, which opened in 2012, are dedicated to providing students with the tools and knowledge they need to excel in their academic and career pursuits.

We are proud to partner with EdTrust–NY, thanks to the generous support of the Heckscher Foundation for Children, to provide essential data on advanced course access. This initiative aims to ensure all New York City students, regardless of background, have equitable access to courses that prepare them for college and careers. Our data highlights the importance of offering advanced courses and the disparities in access faced by students of different racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
