"What can I say about this wonderful school? The programs at TCS are amazing! They learn to write, direct and produce their own short films. They experience what its like to be on a real movie set, their own! There are world renowned directors, producers and other movie people who come to visit and talk with the students about their experiences. If cinema is not your thing, no worries. The rigorous curriculum prepares you very well for any field you may decide to go into. From trigonometry to calculus and beyond... the sky is the limit. The partnership with the Ghetto Film School allows for the next step of their careers with the Film Honors program and so on... The teachers and administration are amazing and the students love it! My son graduated in 2015 and is now in a wonderful college and said to me the other day that "college is a piece of cake because of TCS". Enough said. Go for a tour and see for yourself!"
"Wish this school was around when I was going to school smh"
"I am writing this review as a parent. My daughter has blossomed and her learning capabilities have grown by leaps and bounds during her experience at The Cinema School. As I have learned through visits to many schools during the Hunt for a High School the D.O.E. has many good ideas but often doesn't put the right people in charge. At The Cinema School it has all come together, initially under the leadership of Principal Rex Bobbish and Assistant Principal Keisha Warner The Cinema School hired talented, committed, and creative staff that have inspired my daughter and kept her excited about learning. What is more important than this? NOTHING As my daughter has come home every day and told me of some literary giant which has sparked her imagination from Prometheus by James Baldwin, to Mark Twain's lesser known works, to history with the different ideologies of Booker T. Washington and E.B. Dubois and is it Math you say; well she is now doing Trigonometry and is as her teacher says doing 95% work and could easily be doing 100%. This is a student who didn't want to do any of her work in middle school due to being harassed and having her self-esteem denigrated; but I digress. What is important is that she has teachers who work with her are open to being questioned and are willing to exchange information rather than teach in the children are empty vessels mode. She writes scripts, take art classes on her own, studies Spanish and still speaks reads and writes Chinese. She is deep into filmmaking, and writing scripts, doing directing and it is an honor to be her father and watch my child grow. The D.O.E. has great ideas sometimes for schools but often they choose the wrong leadership, but in the case of the Cinema School all the elements came together under the dynamic leadership which started with Principal Rex Bobbish and Assistant Principal Keisha Warner and is now under the capable hands of Principal Keisha Warner. I just want to say one more thing, my daugher has not been feeling well with a sore throat but when I suggested she stay home, she said no as this week was very important and she would be basically off next with with A.M.I. working on film next week. Now I ask you what child wants to go to school not feeling well. This school is magic, and I have suggested it to many parents of talented and creative children who need a place to grow academically and creatively. Now if we can get music back into the schools with the learning of instruments, it will be complete. This is my humble opinion, Oh one more item it is partnered with the Ghetto Film School a wonderful institution which helps to bring students into the world of filmmaking, production etc. This is my experience as a parent, and it is prejudiced as I have to say I wish I had this kind of education when I was growing up as a student I had to learn much of what my daughter is being taught on my own,. I am glad she has had such an uplifting, creative and positive experience so far and that it has had such a profound positive effect on her growth, and the story continues."
