About the Business
Welcome to the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center
Located in the vibrant Van Cortlandt Village section of the northwest Bronx, the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center (VCJC) is a beacon of faith, tradition, and community. Since its founding in 1927, VCJC has been a steadfast presence, now residing for over 60 years at its beautiful sanctuary at 3880 Sedgwick Avenue, The Bronx, New York.
As a modern Orthodox synagogue, we pride ourselves on being a place where you’ll always belong, no matter where life takes you. Our community is enriched by a wide array of activities and services, fostering spiritual growth and connection. We currently hold Shabbos morning and Holiday services, and while our regular morning minyans were temporarily suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are actively working towards restoring our full schedule of religious services.
VCJC is more than a place of worship; it is a hub for cultural and educational activities. Our collaboration with the Mosholu Montefiore Community Center (MMCC) allows us to host an Early Childhood Education Center, nurturing the next generation within our community.
Our EVENTS PAGE offers detailed information on service schedules, events, and candle lighting times. We are revitalizing our diverse range of activities, including Succos Meals, Kristallnacht Remembrance, Chanukah Parties, and more. Our Monthly Sunday Breakfast Lectures and community programs provide opportunities for learning and engagement, while our active SISTERHOOD organizes events such as museum excursions and guest speaker sessions.
Stay informed with our regularly updated content, including daily schedules available on our Events & Schedules page. Explore our Donations and Supporter pages, now enhanced for your convenience, to see how you can contribute to our thriving community.
We invite you to join us in faith, learning, and community at the Van Cortlandt Jewish Center, where you’ll always find a place to belong.

"The Van Cortlandt Jewish Center is a friendly Congregation with low Memership costs and is a very short walking distance the Bx1, 2 and Bx10 buses. Although the Synagogue is Orthodox, anyone of the Jewish faith will be comfortable attending there."
