Well, that goes back to the 1820s when a young political cartoonist by the name of Thomas Nest summed up the newly established Democrat party as jacka** es, so he portraited them as a donkey and President Andrew Jackson took it and made it their logo. Many years later, in the 1850s, when the newly established Republican Party came to be, to visually make an statement of the elephant in the room, he drew an elephant with the word Republicans on it. And they to made it their own. Today, we see these two iconic logos, and it is all thanks to one artist named Thomas Nest."
