"Very welcoming congregation with lovely people. Thoughtful, wonderful services, led by a terrific minister. A good place to find yourself."
"Community is about a sense of belonging, about sharing the good times and the bad. And there were certainly moments in our 7+ years of being part of the Central Unitarian Church where we felt a part of the community. Particularly during the Circle Suppers, both the ones we attended and the ones we hosted, and during the larger dinners that were part of the Spring Fling events, and mostly during the services. But not when (pre-Covid) we would get dirty looks or lectures about how rambunctious our toddler was being, even though we had moved her to the annex which was set aside for that purpose. Nor when the reverend announced we were moving away, and the only person who reached out to wish us well and express sorrow at our leaving was Lynn, the wonderful director of religious education. Nor when my parents suddenly passed away together a month after we moved, and less than a handful of the congregation members expressed condolences. I particularly note this, because the congregation of my youth, in a faith that I have long since abandoned, and whose members I haven't seen in almost 30 years, reached out to express their condolences and concerns for how I was doing. It was a strong reminder of what real community means, and how long it endures when that initial spark of connectedness fades. We had chosen CUC over a closer Unitarian congregation because we thought we'd find real community there and we are disappointed that we did not. But we are looking forward to finding a new local congregation in our new location once COVID restrictions are more lifted."
"We have been members of this wonderful community since 1987 ...so many great things happen here! A garden that donates the produce to a local food pantry, an auction that raises money for local charities & so much more. Check out our online services !!"
"A warm place where you can find wonderful open minded, thoughtful people. A place where my wife and I can both go and be comfortable even though she grew up Catholic and believes in God and I who grew up Jewish and do not, where our children got a good broad religious education, and where we not only lovingly care for the community but where we also care about what is going on in the world."
"Warm, welcoming people. Great choir. Outdoor labyrinth for walking meditation. Bountiful garden provides produce for food pantry."
