"Almost always crowded, pretty clean welcoming atmosphere. Nice police officers strategically placed; mostly for crowd control, and great with directions and a friendly hello. You can almost always make them laugh."
"The entrance from Los Tacos No. 1 (West side of 7th Ave & 33rd? St? Can't check the map on mobile while I write a review) has no signage telling whether the platform I see after going through the turnstile is uptown or downtown. Yes it is downtown and yes I should know this already ahead of time but my point is that signage could be better. There is a sign that says downtown but it is so close to the ceiling that it is completely hidden by trays that are for whatever reasons added to the ceiling"
"Super busy station with many trains running through. When the station is crowded it's disaster to find your way in and out, and in the summer the place is like a Sauna.. This is a busy station but not much space in the waiting area. I'm glad I downloaded the Amtrak app because at least it updates you on the track to catch your train. They didn't really announce it and many passengers were looking around very confused. There's a decent amount of options for food here."
"The famous Pennsylvania Station on 34th street, under Madison Sq Garden. Over the years, there was a point where this station was starting to clean up, but Post Covid, there is an increasing element of homeless and transient people living inside that station. Law enforcement appear to tolerate the dirt and grime. If you look at Grand Central Station, its like a totally different experience and feels as if its a entirely different city. Penn Station overall has a cheap and dirty feel."
"The areas connecting the 1/2/3 trains to NJT are just downright depressing. It is dilapidated, dirty with human urine and feces, a mini homeless encampment in the early morning hours. The lighting is dingy. The tile walls are soaked with dirt and grime. There has been some improvement at the entrances from the Long Island Railroad to the 1/2/3 entrances in the last year and half. But everything else is less than to be desired."
