"At JERSEY CITY, New jersey location, I went to Row house for my first trial session. I was kept calling them before half n hour. Hardly one call someone picked up I told them that I will be late by 2 to 3 minutes because of the traffic she said you will be fine. And when i reach there the instructor was so rude and she didn’t even let me in the class because i was 2 minutes late. And she didn’t ask me even anything and straight up she kick me out of the class. Very bad behavior."
"Everything seems amazing until something goes wrong. The class, the workout, the people and the environment are all amazing. I genuinely enjoyed rowing here. The thing that hit me badly and is still affecting me is that this class is not for people getting into a gym for the first time. This is not a place where the trainer will give any attention to your posture or technique, even if they said they would and advertise it that way. I was taught the posture and technique once, on the first day. A couple of weeks in I did complain that my arms pain more than my legs - which is not what they said should happen. But there was no effort made to correct anything on me. So that's the first thing where things started going wrong. Secondly, there was a lot of push for "go as hard as you can, push more". Which makes sense in a gym, i agree. But with the wrong posture it can turn into a nightmare. Your only motivation is how good is the person next to you, because the class has a model of "keeping up" to your peers as everyone is aiming for a collective number for a goal. So with an athlete next to me, i kept pushing in the wrong posture and ended up with an injured rib. It's been a year and I am still struggling with it and I'm asked to avoid playing any sport. Now, gym injuries happen, can't blame the gym. So I am writing this as a caution for people who are new to rowing. There are too many people in this class for the trainer to focus on you, or they don't want to. I don't know. They in fact crammed in 2 more machines when i was there, making it a bit too much crowded and hot. If you are already into working out, this is a great place. Else, naah. Where i have a complain with the gym, which i have also read in other reviews here - they tried hard to make me pay for an additional month because apparently a gym needs a months' notice period? I was shocked because this was not communicated to me verbally or in writing when i joined. It is also not mentioned on their website under cancellation policies. So they are a bit shady when it comes to cancellation. What was mind boggling was they were not ready to consider the fact that i had a medical reason to leave, an injury which happened in their gym. Just showed complete lack of empathy. It took me 4 months to get rid of them when finally the person on the desk changed and had enough empathy to not drag an injured person more."
"I had an excellent experience going here every day for a year! Mel, Maggie, and Kelly were some of the best instructors and each class felt like a great challenge. I really appreciated early on how willing each instructor was to teach us, too! And some really fun theme rows, too."
"This is an awesome fitness studio offering rowing classes to anyone who is looking for a full-body workout. For those who think that cyclical sports are boring, I can assure you that they make it fun and engaging. Their classes vary in both length and intensity so everyone could find what works best for them. On top of that, their rowing machines or “ergs” (short for “ergometer”) will measure your effort and the distance rowed each class and their app will track your progress toward your goal. As the effort-based machines go, what you put in is what you get."
