"Abhorrent Customer service from the staff at this location. I spent $6k on training sessions and had 5 remaining sessions that expired this week. The GM and PT Manager (Elizabeth and Princess) REFUSED to extend my remaining 5 sessions so I could use them later this month, DESPITE knowing that I was just laid off last week and my priority is scheduling interviews!!! I think it's pretty common sense that if you have customers/clients willing to invest $6k in your training bundles, you want to keep them around. Rather, they yelled at me and threatened me on the phone in the most unprofessional manner, then dug their heels in and refused to budge. Apparently EQX needs the $500 more then me!"
"I recently moved to NYC to start a new job on May 1. First and foremost, I wanted to join a local gym that's either within walking distance from my apartment or office. Second, I wanted to take advantage of gym membership reimbursements from my company, American Express credit card, and health insurance plan. With that in mind, my first instinct was to tour Equinox. I walked in and approached their White male receptionist to inquire about membership. He completely ignored me and proceeded to browse his phone. I asked again, and he told me to take a seat. Approximately 25 minutes later he gave me an attitude after I asked him if there were any membership advisors available. So I left. It was reprehensible how he treated me. It was shocking to observe his failure to greet any members arriving or leaving the gym."
"This is by far the smallest Equinox in NYC. There are limited free weights equipment and an abundant supply of treadmills and ellipticals on the main floor and basement. This is absolutely useless as 3/4 of the treadmills and ellipticals are never used. The men’s locker room is small. Most afternoon and evening front desk receptionists are rude especially to minorities like Asians and Blacks. They don’t even acknowledge these Asian and Black members entering or leaving the gym. If Asian and Black members say hi, they don’t respond. But they will gladly greet White and pale skin Latino members."
"People don’t need a lot to be a manger, here, they don’t need ANYTHING to be a manager. The staff are absolutely rude and unprofessional, particularly the cleaning lady in the locker room and the so called manager (the female one). I came out of shower, wanted to get 2 pads. The cleaning lady was filling up the box, I walked over, she wouldn’t step aside, so I asked: “Can I have 2 pads?” She didn’t look at me or say anything, then took her a couple seconds to pass me one. I asked: “Can I have another one?” Again, she didn’t look at me or say anything, then took her a few seconds to pass me another one. I took it and walked away. She turned around and confronted me: “You don’t have to snatch it. You’re nasty. Don’t give that attitude.” I was shocked! First, I was being very polite. Second, there’s absolutely no reason for a staff to call a member nasty for no reason! I said: “I didn’t snatch anything. I asked for 2, so I was waiting.” She goes: “You’re only supposed to take one. That’s why.” Seriously?! Does she know how much I’m paying for my membership every month? How much does that extra pad cost? And what makes her called a member nasty and give me that attitude? She followed me to my locker and continue to yell at me and then went outside to gossip about me with her coworker, loud enough for me to hear in the locker room. I walked outside and requested to talk to a manager, this cleaning lady was already there complaining about me to her manager. What about me for her to complain about while she’s the one who’d been yelling the whole time. They made me wait while she’s complaining about me, a member of Equinox. Finally when I got a chance to speak to the so called manager. She said she didn’t want me to feel I wasn’t able to use the amenities. (Really?! For an extra pad?) She asked if there’re other staff in the locker room while this happened. (Really?! Me as a customer need to proof what’s wrong instead of the staff herself?!) She then said she would definitely talk to the staff and find out what happened because she’s hearing 2 sides of the story now. (So, a member requested to talk to a manger without even drying her hair just for the sake of telling a “story”?!) She interrupted me in the middle of the conversation. I didn’t let her interrupt. She, the so called manager, confronted me too and said the conversation ended and asked me to leave the office. Really?! Because I wouldn’t let her interrupt me?! If you’re reading any of the negative comments here, they’re ALL real! I came to this location 2 months ago and the same cleaning lady was miserable and acting with an attitude already. I didn’t care because I didn’t see myself coming back. The locker room’s floor was full of hair and dust and I didn’t want to step on it. When I was there today, there’s some brown pieces of items on the mat of a shower. I have an all access pass, so I can go anywhere but this gym. If you’re looking to join only one Equinox location, avoid this location by all means. That’s because the staff are absolutely rude and unprofessional; and the gym is very small and dirty."
