Reviews of Oscar A. Silverman Library
"Great place to study. Either for group or silent study. You can use giant monitors and iMacs, borrow laptops and computer accessories, etc."
"This is a great "library." I use "" because while it is called library there are no books except for in the special collections edition. It is really more of a study building. Having said that the new renovations are amazing, especially the third floor. Great study space and rooms that can be reserved with dry erase boards and computer hook ups. Great wifi everywhere and all study locations have outlets."
"It's disappointing that you even NEED a Silent Study Room. Oscar A. Silverman Library, as it says in the name, is a LIBRARY! NO ONE should be overtly and obnoxiously loud, especially in the booth area NEXT to the Silent Study Room. The staff did NOTHING to help with the situation and FAVORED the talkative students. Not to mention, the students blasted music on their phones at FULL volume! All the staff did was tell me to go to the Silent Study Room. Even then, that room gets loud for no reason due to some random person talking loudly on their phone. It's SHAMEFUL that my money goes into a sub-par moderated library to focus on my studies. Do better, UB."
"According to what I saw around, there are two floors in this library, and it's accessible by climbing the stairs outside of Capen Hall ground floor, taking the doors to the left, and walking down the wide entrance hallway to the elevators to the far left, to the 2nd and 3rd library floors. The first floor has couches, no-light and lighted PC stations, Wepa Print online-access printers, single or multiple chaired round tables, closed-off cubicles as well as glassed soundproof rooms, and a 24/7 availability large UBIT services assistance booth, among other facilities. The 3rd floor has more floor space, is more developed and has more facilities than the floor below, but according to my experience, disturbance from chatting, discussions etc. is possibly low on the 1st then the 2nd floor. The library is open literally 24/7, as is the UBIT booth and all the facilities. In overall, I would strongly recommend UB students, instructors, staff, guests etc. anyone permitted to make use of the library, to do so to their best, as it provides a noise-minimal and focus-increasing environment to get class work, job work etc. done if they can do so without causing much disturbance or noise for others. As a UB sophomore, thanks a lot for reading the review, and great if it helped."
"Most students here don't know how to shut up in the library, including in the silent-study area. Meanwhile, the attitude of this library is so passive that free ear-plugs are provided at the stair entrance of 2nd floor. Ironic."
