"No dogs are allowed, and they’re serious. Crazy to drive all the way from Manhattan, spend money to be here, and want to buy fresh veggies at a farmers market but your 10 pound dog isn’t allowed...outside. To be clear this market is outside, like every other farmers market in the world, all of which allow dogs. When we asked why, we were told “because an old person like me could trip on them”. Ma’am, if you are not able to traverse the world without tripping over a dog outside on a 4 foot leash, I suggest never leaving the house. I mean what do they do when a squirrel runs across their path from one farm stand to the next? Ridiculous."

"It's a wonderful farmer's market located on Shelter Island... especially if you are out here on holiday. I love how you can purchase fresh meat, milk, cheeses, and of course PICKLES! The spicy sour is one to definitely try if you love spicy stuff. Most of the vendors do accept credit cards. *Update: The Shelter Island Historical Society has renovated the space where the farmer’s market sets up. There is ample parking, new sections for vendors and their wares. The extra open space is nice for taking a break with the kiddos when visiting the market."
