About the Business
Welcome to the Department of Law - Investigations, located at 317 Washington Street, Watertown, New York. As a dedicated branch of law enforcement, we are committed to upholding justice and ensuring the safety and well-being of our community. Under the leadership of Letitia James, the 67th Attorney General of the state of New York, our office serves as a vital resource for addressing legal matters and protecting the rights of New Yorkers.
Our efforts extend across a broad spectrum of legal and social issues, from combating financial fraud—such as the recent case requiring Donald Trump and other defendants to pay $463.9 million—to defending civil rights and safeguarding the environment. We are actively involved in initiatives that support public safety, worker rights, and consumer protection.
In our ongoing mission to support and educate the public, we provide a hotline and free legal guidance on reproductive health care rights. Additionally, we offer critical voting information and resources to ensure every New Yorker can exercise their democratic rights.
Our office has taken decisive actions against unlawful practices, including suing Heartbeat International and crisis pregnancy centers for false advertising, and securing $8.6 million in reforms from Fulton Commons nursing home for financial misconduct. We also address urgent community needs, such as delivering over 9,500 cans of baby formula to families in need during a national emergency caused by price gouging.
At the Department of Law - Investigations, we are proud to serve as vigilant guardians of justice and advocates for the people of New York. Visit us or contact us to learn more about our services and how we can assist you.
