Reviews
"My objective with this review is to be honest about my experiences with Varecka Builders and the owner, Jake Varecka. I hired Jake to do framing, roofing and siding on a garage addition as he was referred to me by a friend. Generally speaking, the project did not go too bad aside from a few incidents, mostly minor but one rather major. A had a path way off the driveway to the site and needless to say it was getting destroyed by the trucks and such. I knew that going in and have no issue with that as these folks need access. However, I met with Jake before he started and discussed the pathway and his access needs. He stated, "If you give me the current area, I won't need anything else - we can stay within the current pathway". We even discussed foot traffic across my lawn and how that would destroy the area requiring additional yard work in the spring and he said they would not do that. Well, that turned out to be false but frankly being reasonable, I actually agree they needed more access and to walk around would have not been efficient so I let it go. I bring it up as this was the start of him doing something other than what he said he would do. Next, minor issue, he changed plans and decided to work on the siding prior to completing the roof and I understood but I need electrical work first and with zero notice he expected my electrician would drop what he was doing and get to my house to accommodate him. Went I told Jake this was not going to happen, he started to give me attitude - very unprofessional. The following issue was rather major - it was communicated and understood with total clarity that I was to be present when they cut the rafter tails off my existing roof to tie in a girder truss. He made plans with me several times to do this so I could stay home from work and each time he cancelled, in some cases due to weather and I fully understood even though he would say 100% we will be there day X. After promising me he would do this on a particular Monday, he once again blew me off. I spoke to him that day after I stayed home for nothing. A day or two later, with no notice and no contacting me he comes and does this activity when I was not present. Thankfully, nothing went wrong but I'm certain he did this behind my back to accommodate his schedule. After this the job was going fairly well. I will say the workmanship is good, not the best detailed work but still not bad. I'd give the workmanship an 8.5 out of 10 and that is due to some sloppy details which he did agree to resolve (but are not resolved). I wanted to meet to go over the few issues and he did not respond to my text so I put together an email punch list. He acknowledged the list and stated he would address each item. Due to weather, we needed to reschedule a meeting but his assured me on a particular Monday he would fix a construction fence his men knocked down which frankly is something that should have been corrected prior to me even bringing this up as my house has an in ground pool and the fence is critical even though this is winter. I arrived home late that Monday to find the fence had not been handled as promised and I texted him "Jake, please stop saying you will do things and then not follow up" Simple communicating as to why he could not do this that day would have been appreciated but getting blown off is not professional. So, after me holding him accountable, he goes off the deep end and send this in a text (see attached) Aside from the extremely childish remarks, the best part is how "he bent over backwards" - I hired him to do a job, he did nothing more than hired and actually did not complete what he was hired for and yet he makes this statement? As you can see, it's very unprofessional. Would I hire him again or recommend him? Absolutely not."
