Reviews of First Unitarian Universalist Society of Syracuse
"An extremely welcoming congregation that is truly ready for more diversity. Indigenous First Nation Peoples, African Americans, Arab Americans, Latino Americans, and Asian Americans are encouraged to visit. LGBTQ+ peoples are warmly invited. Immigrants are absolutely welcome. We are all ONE in the Spirit."
"My husband and I are both blind and use Seeing Eye Dogs. We weren't sure how we would be received coming into a church where we didn't know anyone. We have been warmly welcomed along with our dogs. This community has been very receptive to us and our needs. The music director didn't hesitate in ordering materials in Braille. If you are looking for a church that is friendly, accepting and has a positive environment, then First UU would be a good choice!"
"First Unitarian Universal Society of Syracuse has been a family for my daughter and me as we have moved through troubled times, including divorce and increasing alienation from my family of origin. It has also been the first and most supportive home for my political activism. Members of the congregation not only attend political protests together, but they also join together to examine and discuss their own privileges and political blind spots. They turn outward to challenge the world, but also inward to challenge themselves and each other."
"Growing up, our family wasn't very religious or church-going. As an adult I often thought "what if there was a church that was basically 'so let's live by the Golden Rule' and then build a community with people who wanted to do that?" As it turns out, that's what I found at First UU. Not everyone there believes the same things about the things about the greater questions beyond life, and that's okay by us... what you DO is more important than what you believe, and at First UU we try to do the right things. My family has been going there for 4 years, and we're so happy we found it. Stop by, be welcomed, and meet some wonderful people."
"First UU is a great community. Warm and friendly - open and affirming to all. It's a great church is you have children - wonderful Religious Education program. This is a congregation that is open to all - especially the spiritual but not religious. Services are at 10:30 on Sunday mornings."
