Located at 2292 Frederick Douglass Boulevard, just steps away from the legendary Apollo Theater, Sugar Monk is a tribute to the historic uptown speakeasies that once defined this iconic neighborhood.
At Sugar Monk, we pride ourselves on crafting exquisite cocktails using only the freshest ingredients and the finest spirits. Our menu features a stunning array of house-made artisanal Amari, liqueurs, bitters, infusions, and extracts, all meticulously crafted to deliver depth, uniqueness, and complexity in every sip. Our renowned forager, Tama Matsuoka Wong, provides us with an exceptional selection of wild plants, roots, fruits, and flowers, bringing a touch of the natural world to your glass.
In addition to our signature cocktails, we offer a curated selection of New & Old-World wines, premium spirits, craft beers, and a delectable menu of small savory dishes and desserts. Our kitchen is open from 6:00 pm - 10:00 pm Sunday through Thursday, and until 11:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

Enjoy classic Prohibition and Pre-Prohibition cocktails with a Sugar Monk twist, accompanied by live jazz performances from Max Bessesen and his trio from 8:00 pm to 10:15 pm.
Your hosts, Ektoras Binikos, an accomplished mixologist and visual artist, and Simon Jutras, a talented photographer and designer, invite you to experience the creative escape that is Sugar Monk. Their collaboration is a testament to their shared passion for reviving the tradition of the Harlem speakeasy.
Due to our intimate setting, we strongly encourage reservations for the dining room, while our bar and patio operate on a first-come, first-served basis. We are honored to have been recognized as one of the World's Best Intimate Bars, winning the American Airline's Platinum List Awards in 2020.

"Beautiful cocktail bar in central Harlem with delicious drinks in an intimate setting. My girlfriend and I spent a lovely evening here. The only reason I give it 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the service. Our server was unfortunately not very kind. I told her I was choosing between a few drinks, and was wondering what she thought of them. She did not seem very happy that I asked, and did not tell me about any of the drinks, leaving me to hurriedly choose one because I felt awkward. At a place like this (20+ dollar cocktails), I think it is important that the staff are willing and able to describe the drinks and provide recommendations if someone asks. Besides that, everything was wonderful."
"Love this place! Great selection of cocktails and they definitely have something for everyone. Ordered the grateful matador and I was very happy with my choice, the Palo Santo on the drink was a nice touch. Loved the music too, just great vibes. I live downtown but it was worth the trek. They do have 20% tips added to the bill."

"This is an absolute gem, amazing cocktail bar with a great vibe and a unique high end drink menu. Good music but not too loud so you can have a conversation but still feel relaxed. Will definitely come back to try the food another time. Overall awesome experience."
