"**EDITED TO ADD: After posting my negative review below based on a bad/lazy salesman, I received a phone call just hours later from the sales manager and the general manager. Rob could not have been more apologetic and went out of his way to try to make things right for me. He immediately sent me a photo of the refund check that he cut today and will be mailing. I appreciate the business management being so professional and reaching out to me to make a negative experience into a more positive one. Hopefully you get to experience another sales person at Capitol Motor Group and have a better experience with this business. They definitely did everything they could do make things right. ** I drove all the way out to Long Island from Westchester (90 mins each way) on a summer weekend to see a specific car on Capitol Motor Group’s lot. Before making the long drive, we had asked a number of questions on the phone to make sure the car was as pictured online. We asked specifically about a large tear in the driver’s seat fabric and was told on the phone by Richard, “I think that’s been fixed”. It was not fixed. We asked specifically if the car had any odors such as cigarette smoke. Richard told us the car was clean and did not have any odors. The second I opened the door of this car on the lot, I was immediately hit in the face by the strong smell of cigarettes. This is not something that could be missed by anyone who had bothered to take 5 seconds to check. The sales person Richard didn’t bother to actually get up out of his chair and walk outside to personally inspect the car himself, he supposedly relied on “his guys” who told him “it was clean”. There were also no less than three areas of rust (which were not shown at all on the website) on this “clean” and “smoke-free” car. To say I was angry when I saw this piece of junk cigarette-stinking car in person is an understatement. I had previously given a deposit over the phone to hold this car that I was now no longer interested in. When Richard followed up by phone later that day, I told him I was not interested in that car or any other car on their lot and I would like my deposit refunded. I was told by Richard that would happen the next business day. Fine. Three days go by and I check my credit card and see that no refund has been processed. I call Richard again to have the charge reversed/refunded and he again swears he will take care of it. Then he calls me back and says he must have thrown out the piece of paper with my CC number on it bc he thought it was “a done deal”. I call him back the next day to give him my CC number. He takes it (repeating the whole number out loud to god knows who is there in the showroom listening), then calls me back again 5 mins later to say they have some kind of “issue” at this dealership that they can’t reverse credit card charges and they’ll have to cut me a check. Would I like to drive out to Long Island again and pick it up? No, Richard, no I would not. So he agrees to mail me the check that won’t be cut for another five business days. I’m not holding my breath here that it will arrive to me anytime soon. The icing on the cake: Richard insisted on calling me “honey”, “sweetheart”, or “darling” at least once every single time we spoke on the phone (and in person). This isn’t 1964, enough with the sexist and demeaning language when dealing with a middle age female customer on a business transaction. While waiting at the dealership to get information on another car on the lot, I overhear Richard “jokingly” making disgusting sexist comments about a well-known and well-respected woman of color to another potential (male) customer. We walked out after that. That was all I need to know to fully make the decision that I don’t want to do business with this sleazy salesman. Ever. Thanks for nothing but wasting hours of my valuable time and making my teenage son say, unprompted, “Now I know why used car salesmen have such bad reputations!”"
