"Received a Blank Santa Fe on Wednesday to drop my daughter off to college. On the way there is when I realized that there was no working horn on the vehicle. Mind you the reason it was realized is because we were almost in an accident. Called and emailed the company to no avail and I'm still waiting for a response. I returned the vehicle once I returned back to NY and your manager stated to me that the horn might've stopped working once I picked up the vehicle, since they inspect all vehicles before departure of the facility. Instead of an apology or any sympathy about the fact that I had my child in the vehicle with me that was her response. Your JFK rental employees need some serious retraining on how to deal with customers. My experience here has been an outrageous and very disappointing. Your company will absolutely be my last result in renting any kind of vehicle."
"Horrible experience, hard to call this even a service. Had a very friendly woman serving us at the desk, but as soon as we went towards the parking lot to recover our car we found 30+ people waiting. We were informed to wait ‘give or take’ an hour in a wildly unfriendly way. Not sure how long we will have to wait, but now we are already 1h30 in and decided to kill the time with a review."
"**Unacceptable Service at Dollar Rent A Car, JFK Airport** We booked and paid for our rental a week in advance but still had to wait over three hours. The staff, including a manager named Abdul, were unprofessional—taking their time, going on lunch breaks, and spending over an hour assisting someone who wasn’t even in the line. Despite multiple complaints from others in the queue, the staff didn’t care to do anything to address the situation. When we finally reached the counter, the lady told me there was an issue with my license, even though I've used it to drive in the U.S. before. She then told me to wait for the manager, Abdul. Despite multiple calls from the staff, Abdul didn’t even come initially—we had to go and get him ourselves. When he finally checked, he said everything was fine. After all that, the car I was given was smelly and had clearly done enough miles. This was the worst car rental experience I've ever had, whether in Europe, the U.S., or anywhere else in the world. All of this can be verified with the other customers who rented that day at the same time. If you have a chance, choose another car rental company. The negative Google reviews are accurate. Avoid Dollar Rent A Car at JFK Airport to save yourself time, money, and frustration. Other companies are far more professional, with significantly shorter wait times and better vehicles."
"This has to be the worst car rental location globally. I travel (and rent) all the time and have never experienced anything as bad as this customer service wise from a global brand. I had booked a Polestar 2 and pre checked in via the "Express" option. When I arrived there was zero cell reception in the rental office so I could not even select which car I wanted. When I went to the counter the woman was completely rude, defensive and could not care less. Even though I had booked the car 2 weeks prior she said I had booked it that day (????) and that the Polestar would be more expensive?! I showed her what I had booked and she just shrugged and said "that's your problem not mine" unbelievable...she then said the Polestar was was not there anyway. She then Offered me a much lower level car and I refused saying their mistake, they have to give me like for like or actually better. She ignored me completely when I tried to speak to her and have me a rubbish alternative EV Which turned out to be dirty, smelled of smoke and was only charged at 40% which meant I had a terrible time trying to find an available charger. Truly a shocking customer service experience and not a hint of contrition or apology....will never, ever book with Dollar again"
"I have booked online and when I got to the location it was supposed to be fast. Well, took them about 1 1/2 hours to get to us with like 4-5 people in front of me.(note, I checked in online as well, website kept giving me a message that my car is not ready yet)) I paid for the full-size SUV rental, lady told me about the additional insurance and if I take theirs my online booking will be automatically cancelled, and I will be billed new amount. I said fine. In a meantime the guy walks in and starts looking for the lady. Apparently, they got into a fight outside and he wanted her name to send a complaint to the headquarters. The manager that was there refused and was protecting her. The guy told all the people to be careful because they are liars and very dishonest. Next step, lady sent us to the manager to discuss details of our reservation whom in the meantime moved to the building across the street. We meet with him, and he was either too busy to think straight or clueless. Well, sent us outside to wait for our car. It was me, my wife, and our 2 little kids. By then, we were waiting for nearly 2 hours and kids had it. (They were not crying, nor screaming, but were asking about leaving the airport) We walked outside and there are like 6-8 bookings waiting for their cars. The manager came outside to help with the cars. He brought the small SUV to one of the customers. They refused and he was like, here this is your rental. My wife goes to him, we booked and paid for full-size SUV not this one. Can't even fit the stroller in the trunk properly. He said that they don't have it. I told her just to get in the car and that we will deal with it later. Once we returned home from our vacation, we discovered 2 different charges, and started getting hold of them to no available. Will never rent through them again. When it comes to the behavior of the lady, she was very rude to the guy that came inside to ask for the name and continued her behavior even after he already left. Not a lady like, and very unprofessional."
