Payless Car Rental 25 Bowery Bay Boulevard, Queens, NY 11371

"I rented a car with payless, subsidiary of Avis but wasn't sure where to leave my review, copied here from Avis for others to see... ----- I rented a car for 24hrs, but only ended up driving 2.5 hours worth in total. I was hit with two fees: fuel, and cleaning. 1. I fueled the car across from the office immediately before returning the car. While waiting for a friend to pick me up, I received an email receipt with a fuel service charge of ~$70. I walked back into the office and asked about this and was refunded (the car was full and in the lot right in front). 2. Two weeks later, I receive a cleaning fee of $450 for "animal hair". This is the first time I have received any cleaning fee in my 20+ rentals since 2020. Take videos, pictures, and watch out for unexpected charges. Promptly going to push back this charge as soon as it hits, this is absurd."

"Honestly, the experience was not great! The attendant at the counter was painfully slow , not helpful and not very friendly. To be clear ,I am not looking to make a friend as I try to rent a car but she barely spoke and made the process painful. I then had to wait for a car which took a long time because they didn’t have a car ready for me. I had to remind the agent several times that I was still waiting . She then told me “Stand out front they are bringing your car around” . I went outside and waited for my car .. guess what … the car never came around. Instead, the guy drove the car from what appeared to be the service area to a parking spot across the lot from me. So I walked over and asked if that was my car. The guy gave me a thumbs up. Honestly, terrible service, terrible communication and clearly a company that could care less how their customers are treated."

"I waited for the rental car bus to come around and pick me up. For one hour I waited in the dark cold night at LaGuardia Airport. All the other car rental company buses came around picked up their people and left. The Payless bus never showed up. I call customer service three times. No one could help me. I was so angry. I finally Googled it and saw Payless..... that they're a subsidy of Avis!!! Why didn't you tell me in the email that I should take the Avis bus to the counter. No one told me that. What a complete failure of management!!!"

"First time renting from New York LGA. The lady at the front desk was nice and working on Christmas day yet she isn't sad. I rented a RAV4 but they ran out so she gave me a Jeep Wrangler without issue same price. I drove from NY to FL without an issue the JEEP was in perfect condition and clean. Dropped it off at FL without an issue and a 250 hold-on card was given right back to me within 1 hour. Good rentals def + and will rent from them again if I ever go to NY. Give them a try."

"If you ever have to rent a car due to a canceled flight, don’t rent with Avis/Payless. The name should be “Paymore”. They got me! I had to rent a car for 4 days in order to secure it. Only need it for 24 hours. The vehicle was the worst I’ve ever rented. Dents, scratches, scrapes. The running board was broken (safety hazzard). This experience was not easy to digest. No one at Avis acknowledged the condition of the vehicle; pickup or drop off. I mentioned it multiple times."
