"Nice People but Misleading/Shady Advertising of Homes Every in-person dealing I had with people at SC Beach Realty was good; the people were friendly and nice. The home we stayed in, Panacea, was fine. Three out of five mainly due to the dirty nature of the home when we arrived. However, there's some shady advertising practices happening. I wrote an honest review about the home to help set expectations. The house was eclectic and rustic and kind of charming but was super dirty when we arrived. There was feces splashed on the walls from where someone had plunged the toilet, the toilet seat hinges were brown with old urine, blackened grout in the shower, dried toothpaste on the shower walls, and most things had years of dust on them. This is coming from someone who has lived in her house for four years without ever dusting the top of the windowsills and the dust in this house was worse than that, so it had to be years of no one touching it. The carpet needed to be replaced but that's not as easy a fix as cleaning so I don't begrudge them that. And honestly, I wouldn't have minded the house - the place was a little run down, but in a great location, and the pool was awesome. I just thought it needed a good cleaning. I spent about an hour or two cleaning after we arrived, mainly to get rid of the previous renter's bodily fluids in the bathroom. That night (the day we arrived) I emailed the company telling them we were having a great time but that the house was dirty, and I sent photos so they would be able to see what I mean to correct it for the next person and tell the cleaners (who are pressed for time I'm sure) where to focus. I had already cleaned most of it myself so there was no need to send anyone- I just wanted to make it better for the next person. I apologized profusely because I HATE doing stuff like that, and didn't want to get the cleaners in trouble, but figured they would want to know. I got no response. So when they emailed asking for a review on the house I ignored it. Then they emailed again. And a third time, so, I gave a three star review- not scathing but honest with the location being five and the cleanliness being one. It auto-posted yesterday but today, it's gone. And no response from the company even though my review wasn't anonymous. By removing the negative reviews, they are misleading potential renters. People should know what they are getting into. The demand is high for houses down there - they would probably still rent it, but have happier customers if they kept the expectations realistic. Sorry SC Realty. Just trying to help the next guy. :/"
"Beach realty had a data breach and they didn’t even inform their customers. The data was used by hackers to try and con customers into making extra payments - had beach realty informed customers, they would have been aware of what was happening."
"We stayed at Royal Jewel. Multiple people got splinters in the unfinished deck. Why you would have an unfinished deck that is beachfront is beyond me. The railings are broken with exposed nails and are separating from the home. We killed about a dozen roaches. The floors were not cleaned prior to our check in. Reviews on the realty website claim the beds are comfortable. These had to be paid reviews, because I can’t fathom how anyone can truly sleep comfortably. The photos on the rental listing do not truly reflect the dilapidated nature of this house. The house is easy to find from the beach because of the rust and paint that has fallen off the deck railings along with the missing shingles. One bedroom door looks to have been kicked in. Outlet covers are broke and/or falling off the wall. There is an air hockey table in the photos, but there is no air hockey table. I would guess the photos used in the listing are at least 5+ years old. If you have small kids, you may want to avoid this place due to the deck condition alone. The only positive is the pool was cleaned quickly upon our check in, as it hadn’t been cleaned prior. To be clear, I don’t think most of this is the fault of the Realty Company. It is most likely due to cheap owner(s) who don’t want to maintain the house."
"DO NOT RENT WILLIAM’S WHARF UNTIL THE MOLD IS REMEDIATED IN THE HOUSE. See pictures. The top floor reeks of mold. The home is completely falling apart due to consistent lack of professional maintenance. Examples: - AC on the first floor did not work when we arrived - Dishwasher did not work and still does not work since we arrived. - Mold throughout the house (how do you not notice with regular inspections????) - Leaky showers, spongy drywall (bedroom with the 2 queens) - Exterior doors knobs do not turn and are shot - Furniture is shot, multiple dining room chairs broken. Deck rocking chairs are broken"
"We stayed in Black Magic mid October 2023. The location was fantastic. No high rises and nice quiet neighborhood. The house was lovely. Large bedrooms with private baths were very nice. Main living area also large for accommodating a large group! I would not use South Beach Realty again however. When we arrived at check in we were told there was a problem with the pool pump and someone would be out to fix it on Monday. We arrived at the house to find that the pool and entire back yard were filled with sand! The hurricane a few weeks earlier had caused the surf to breach the dune and literally filled the pool to the top with sand!! The patio furniture was under the house covered in sand. The hot tub was cracked and not operational. The first two and a half days we lived with heavy equipment emptying out the pool all day long. The noise and inconvenience were very disappointing, the lack of truth from South Beach Realty was worse. We couldn't even sit on the beach one of the days because they were taking the sand from the yard out to the beach so we had to walk down the beach about 4 houses to have a little peace. At the very least we should have been advised of this prior to our arrival. We had other issues with the house as well. One of the bedrooms had blood all over a comforter. My son asked if someone had been murdered there, that's how much blood it was. Someone came out to get it to have it "cleaned" but we never got a replacement. Fortunately, we had one open bed in the house so we used that comforter. The elevator was also non-operational but they did come out and repair that promptly. Prior to our trip we were unable to get questions answered, would leave messages and not get a call back. They were very prompt in coming out and addressing issues however. The owner did agree to give us 15% off after a lot of discussion and complaints through the realty company. If I were the owner I would look for a different real estate company to manage this home."
