"My mother was placed here for skilled nursing. Her room was filthy, the elevators stank of urine and the stench only increased upon exiting on her floor. We ended up fighting to remove her from the facility due to the conditions and the state of her care. Regarding her care, the staff seemed either overworked, undertrained or potentially both. Due to the nature of my mom’s disease she had been in SNFs twice before and both times were really positive experiences. We were ignorant to how truly awful a facility could be before she was placed at Shadyside Nursing and Rehab. My mom was left to poo on herself and then left unchanged for 45 minutes. She became extremely anxious and scared staying in the facility requesting that family stay with her almost 24/7. My siblings made daily night time trips and we never left her for more than 2 hours until we were able to move her to a better facility. It was a traumatizing experience for all of us. I wouldn’t wish this place on any person or family. PLEASE please visit before placing a loved one here. Check the floor, see a room, look and see if the residents are attended to. Zero stars."
"If I could give this place a -100 I would. The women whom work the front desk were the sweetest, But once you get past that it goes down hill. My Mom was there a very long 5 days after her insurance forced her there. She was put on the 2nd floor where from the moment you got off the elevator smelt like an old urinal that hadn’t been flushed in years. The rooms are filthy! They don’t care about the privacy of their residents while changing them, I walked in to my Mom being changed and the aide never pulled the privacy curtain between her and her room mate. He threw my Moms dirty brief across the room infront of the other resident. Then proceeded to wipe the floor with a blanket when exiting the room. Call bells being ignored for extended periods of time. Several times my Mom rang to have her brief changed and was told they couldn’t because it wasn’t the 2hr mark she would have to wait (Yes I was on the phone with her when a staff whom gave my Mom a “nickname” when I asked whom she was so I could bring it to someone’s attention) While she stood there for 6 mins arguing with my mother she could have changed her! They did not care to read in my Moms records that she has dysphasia and needed her medication administered in a pudding or applesauce (When I asked about this they claimed they didn’t know she had it) They would leave her pills sit for her to take on her own, And due to her being unable to swallow them she would get frustrated and throw them. They claim she refused to give them back. Which I find a lie because several times I visited they were sitting on the table. Her Chemo pills were handed to her in a cup to take on her own. Number 1 rule with chemo meds they aren’t to be handled by bare skin! Once again she was touching them because they weren’t properly administered with a substance. In 5 days she had the start of a bed sore, But in 7 weeks at a hospital never had any issues. Room was never cleaned in 5 days other than garbage emptied. I brought this to the attention of the Nursing Supervisor, Director or Nursing, Social Worker and Administrator and nothing was done other than when questioning things again about the care my Mom was receiving Chris Hansen the administrator and Crystal the DON told me that if we felt that unsafe and concerned to have my Mom taken to the HP and they would arrange it. They did so by calling 911 and telling them she had abdominal pains. Which was false pretenses. Supervising Nurse Nicole- Was hands down the best. She went above and beyond to help me in those 5 short days! These are just some of the concerns and issues we had. So please don’t send your loved ones here if you really care. I have included the filth of my Moms room, the pills they left for her, the brief laying on the floor in front of the other resident. A pill my Mom tried to dissolve just so she could take it."
"This place is HORRIBLE!!! DO NOT send your love ones to this facility! They threw my 75 yr old Mother out and never told me the(first point of contact) that she was on her way home in the paramedics! She was treated like garbage while there and left her in her own feces for hours in the bed. They need to shut this place down!!"
"I have had 3 friends now condemned to this facility. It's the worst in Allegheny County without question. Understaffed, uneducated or unhelpful staff, filthy, inconsistent therapy, inedible food....it's sad and disrespectful to the patients. I know healthcare is struggling but this facility makes it look like human care is no longer possible. Reconsider all options and if you have to go here, be prepared to advocate for yourself or your loved one. Supplement food, clean your own room and patient, and demand services. Thanks for listening."
