"I’ve had decent experiences here in the past but my last visit was an absolute waste of time and money. I went in with extremely swollen neck lymph nodes and inflamed tonsils that had puss pockets. Absolutely no other symptoms, no cold or flu symptoms. They did a rapid strep test which was negative and insisted it was a viral infection. I expressed I was concerned it was a bacterial infection based on the fact I had no other symptoms and my lymph nodes had been severely swollen for over 4 days at the time of my visit.. No offer to do a throat culture or CBC to ease my concern of infection. I called back less than 48 hours after my original visit to let them know my symptoms had not improved at all and I was even more concerned that I have a bacterial infection. They stated I would need to come back in and pay another $120 exam fee for them to simply look at my throat once again just to prescribe me antibiotics, which should have been done in the first place.. I am not someone who goes to the doctor for every little thing, especially when I suspect something viral. I try to avoid antibiotics whenever possibly so the fact that I felt as if I needed them says a lot about how bad I am feeling. The experience you have here very much depends on the provider you see. It’s really sad that the standard of care varies so greatly that you have to cross your finger and hope you get a competent, caring provider."
"The moment I walked in the door I was greeted by very kind professional folks. I saw the nurse practitioner and was given a thorough exam. She took her time and didn’t try to rush me along. My experience was positive with absolutely no complaints. Thank you UPMC."
"This UPMC location is dirty, unsafe, wildly unprofessional, and continually attempted to bill us after providing no service and being unable to assist us in any way during what we believed was a potential medical emergency. My goal in posting this review is not only to ensure that UPMC Urgent Care Carlisle makes this right, but also to help keep others from having a similar experience. I brought my fiancee to this urgent care location on January 11, 2024 as it was the closest option when she was having a severe allergic reaction (hives on arms/legs/chest/neck and throat swelling) with no apparent cause. We waited for around two hours to be seen while being asked to wear masks the entire time - not only is it ludicrous that any establishment, medical or otherwise, would attempt to continue to enforce masking at this point - but she was also already having difficulty breathing at the time, and we did not want to further restrict her air. Once we were finally seen, we were seated in a dirty room with visible dried blood stains on the floor (we made sure to capture this on video) and were met with a nurse who, while appearing friendly, had no clue what the issue was or what was causing her reaction. At one point, the nurse suggested that perhaps she and I had been fighting, and that a full-body hives breakout and closing throat may have just been a “stress response” to an argument. Not only was this wildly inappropriate, but I hadn’t even seen my fiancee all day - I left work about a half hour early to take her to urgent care when her reaction started. I was already under stress worrying about the woman I’m spending the rest of my life with, I didn’t need someone who didn’t know us wrongly insinuating that we were having relationship issues on top of that. In the end, all the nurse was able to do was give her a single Benadryl and told her to come back if it happened again. I could just have easily taken her home and given her Benadryl myself. We left without any kind of answer, and with no real service provided, I informed the worker who checked us out that we did NOT expect to be receiving a bill. Thankfully, her swelling wound up going down on its own and we still are unsure of what caused the initial problem. A few weeks later, though, UPMC Urgent Care Carlisle had the audacity to send us a bill for $50, which we of course ignored as we were certain it was sent in error after the experience we had. Shockingly, on August 1, 2024 we received another piece of mail from Computer Credit Inc, a debt collector hired by UPMC to attempt to collect the $50 they seemed to believe we owed them. Unfortunately, my fiancee paid this bill electronically, thinking that we had no other choice. In the event of a true medical emergency, UPMC Urgent Care Carlisle would have been absolutely useless to help us, so receiving a bill for even $1 - let alone $50 - is unacceptable for the complete lack of both service and professionalism we experienced. I fully expect to receive back every cent we were wrongly charged plus additional compensation for the aggravation this experience has caused. I feel that as a young couple at the time new to the area, UPMC Carlisle took advantage of us, wrongly thinking that we would just accept it. I will not only be reaching out to UPMC Carlisle’s billing department, but I will be reporting this location to every possible oversight and regulatory board I can think of until this is made right."
"There was nobody else in the waiting room and almost no wait (Thursday afternoon), which the one person at the desk did acknowledge as uncommon. The doctor (Marlys Pike) was so knowledgeable, kind, empathetic, and generous with her time. I’m so glad I came here."
"The "Dr." Julie Eddy was absolutely awful. Wasted over an hour of my time to send my son home with nothing when all he needed was an antibiotic. Insisted on testing him for strep when I told her without a doubt in my mind he didn't have strep. Guess what, test came back negative but she didn't even come back to talk to us. Sent a nurse in with the paperwork to tell me "you're good to go, no strep". No, we're not good to go. He needs medicine. I told the nurse I need to talk to the Dr, but she never came back in after waiting almost another half hour. Thanks for nothing Julie Eddy. UPDATE: Was lucky enough to get my son an appointment at his doctor. Sinus infection and borderline ear infection. Who would have thought? Gave him antibiotics just like I was asking for at this waste of space clinic. So again, thanks for nothing Julie Eddy!"
