The Wayfaring Buckeye Hostel
About the Business
Welcome to The Wayfaring Buckeye Hostel, your home away from home in Columbus, Ohio. Established in 2008, we take pride in providing a clean, comfortable, and social environment for travelers looking to explore our vibrant city. Unlike your average American hostel, we offer an array of free amenities designed to enhance your stay and create memorable experiences.
At The Wayfaring Buckeye, we understand that hostels are more than just budget-friendly accommodations; they are places where travelers can meet, connect, and share experiences. Our focus is on fostering a friendly and social atmosphere. We regularly organize outings to local bars and restaurants, and during warmer weather, you might spot us riding around on our nine-person "Surrey" style bicycle. Impromptu potluck feasts and movie nights in our theater room are common occurrences, and guests are welcome to enjoy our cable channels and streaming services.
Our spacious common rooms and large front porch often become meeting spots for guests looking to converse and share stories. Located in the energetic University District, specifically in the SOHUD neighborhood, we are just 3-4 miles north of Downtown Columbus. While our hostel is situated on a quieter residential street, it’s only a few blocks away from dining, nightlife, and shopping venues.
Columbus is a city where the action is north of Downtown, and our neighborhood boasts some of the city's best clubs, galleries, museums, and restaurants. For those relying on public transit, we are conveniently close to the number four bus line (cota.com) and a free shuttle bus service that runs from our street to High Street near the University, making it easy to get around. Simply use the bus stop at Maynard Ave. and Summit St. when leaving the hostel.
Whether you're here for a short visit or an extended stay, The Wayfaring Buckeye Hostel offers a unique and enriching experience that goes beyond typical lodging. We look forward to welcoming you to Columbus and helping you make the most of your stay.

"It's nice cozy property. I stayed for 3 nights in shared dormitory (with 4 others). Whatever is shown about the property in the Google images are absolutely true. I reckon private rooms might be great! Kitchen is good."
"Thus was my first ever experience with a hostel and I have say it was spectacular. I can't speak highly enough about the guest, staff, amenities and experience. This was an experience I will remember in a great light and spread.by any means necessary. Robbie goes out of his way to make any accommodation and is quite genuine in every effort as well as kind hearted and warm welcoming. Please enjoy this wonderful treasure of Columbus and hope your experience/memories will be as wonderful as my own. Best wishes and safe travels hostellers."
"GREAT LOCATION! If you stay close and head in the right direction! AMAZING FOOD nearby walking or under ten minute drive away. Interesting people- repeat guests! Clean rooms, highly responsive owner/host. Very BYO, regular size bath towels were provided but no other toiletries and most of the linens were WHITE (ladies if you wear makeup or have colored hair bring your own towels!). Lots of space to chill- didn't get to use the hot tub but if I had stayed longer I may have. Three full bathrooms and laundry services available. Fully functional stocked kitchens. Would 100% stay again!"
"First experience staying at a hostel and it was great!. I booked a private room "Owner's Suite", very clean, spacious, towels provided, and TV with streaming services. Two bathrooms were clean and well maintained. The common areas are well furnished as well. I loved the self-serve breakfast, reasonable varieties, clean utensils. Lastly, you have a place to park your car and multiple coffee shops and restaurants that you can walk to and enjoy! Definitely recommend if you are visiting Columbus and want a reasonably priced place to stay, on average you will be saving $50-100 a night if compared to average hotel pricing in the area."
"Would recommend this place for anyone on a tight budget. You definitely get a lot of value for the price you pay for. They offer free bike rentals and breakfast, and there is a hot tub in the back. The place is mostly clean, but definitely shows a lot of wear and tear. I've seen many dead bugs in the bathroom though. The house is within walking distance from a bus stop, but it can be quite scary walking back to the hostel at night. The road is dark and uneven with stray cats wondering around. The biggest issue I had was with the loft room. I am only 5'11", but already have to crouch pretty much the entire time. There is also an AC unit that's stupidly loud, and it feels like there is a thunderstorm going on every night I sleep there. I left the house at 8am everyday and returned at 12am. It was easy for me to secure a bathroom for showers at those times, but I don't know how easy it will be outside of that. There are 3 bathrooms, and the one downstairs ran out of hot water really quickly. Overall, if you can bear with loud noises and are on a tight budget, I would recommend this place. Remember to bring your own soap!"
