"I live near the plant & it often reeks of burning chemicals. While denser polymer plastics are a necessary evil in modern living, from what I understand this plant is simply producing plastic pellets for single-use plastic items, not a necessary trade-off for the increased rates of cancer & respiratory issues that will ensue from the by-product emissions of the operation. Much of the plastic product will then be shipped overseas. Being exempt from property taxes while receiving the largest tax break in Pennsylvania's economic history, and employing only roughly 300 locals doesn't seem like much of an economic boost so I'm not sure where the craze is coming from. I will give them the benefit of the doubt though & hopefully they pull through with their pollution mitigation strategies while having a noticeable & positive impact on the surrounding communities. ***EDIT*** This plant has been a failure so far. They have spewed over 100 additional tons of VOC's than their 500 ton yearly allotment. As an asthmatic person who has lived in Vanport for over 5 years now I can assure you many people including myself have had a harder time breathing this winter with noticeable & consistent respiratory irritation. I have written to every local representative in the area asking them to speak up about these shortcomings since OUR tax dollars help fund this corporate monolith. I don't know a single person who lives within a 2 mile radius of this plant that wants this here. There should be a new consensus taken being that they have already had 9 DEP violations!! This is complicit bureaucracy at its finest. Look into PA State Constitution - Article 27. Who is this thing really benefitting?"
"Plastic is a life requirement. Breaking VOC tonnage allotments is not. Don't break agreement I give nice review and well you guys can see how many stars I left"
"Beautiful, useful, and propelling us towards a better future. Don't listen to them NIMBY hoopies."
"I had to deliver crane mats to a job site there and they refused to let me make my delivery because I have a dog inside my sleeper truck(home). I ended up driving an extra 1hr 40mins out of the way to get unloaded while also putting me 7 hours behind for the day."
"I'll just leave this reddit post here for context: "We looked at Marshall twp over the weekend. Such a beautiful place. Do people buying up these million/multi million dollar places realize that they are within a 9-10 mile radius of the 2nd largest cracker plant in North America? We had realtors convincing us, “it’s fine! Doctors live here!!” Spoiler, my husband is an oncologist with his first degree in chemical engineering. Daily exposure to this is, without a doubt, harmful, despite what shell sponsored studies demonstrate to the public. ""
