"Paul made our countertop too narrow even though we had been very clear (in writing) about the dimensions. He said he could fix it by adding a new piece so we drove it back out to his shop outside of Wasilla from Anchorage. He sent a photo of the edge when he was done saying you couldn't tell where the new piece had been added. We drove back out to pick it up and he loaded it straight into our van upside down so we couldn’t see the edge. When we got it home we realized he had actually sent us a photo of the other edge and that the new piece stuck out like a sore thumb. He had messed up the corner and had also added a noticeable strip of resin along the entire 7-foot length of the counter to join the two pieces—even though he told us when we ordered that he never used fillers in his butcher block countertops. When I sent photos and tried to follow up by phone he totally stopped responding—he’s been ignoring me since. We looked more closely and also discovered gaps between the strips of wood all over the countertop and that the edge profile is really inconsistent (sharp on some edges, softened on others). The joint between the top and vertical piece is also not square- it's less than a 90 degree angle so it doesn't sit properly on our cabinets. Paul came recommended and seemed like a really nice guy, so we are both surprised and disappointed by how this turned out. We had already paid him in full for the countertop because he was going through some personal stuff and we were sympathetic. We are now stuck with a very expensive eyesore that we can’t use in the kitchen and—even worse—feel like he took advantage of us. We were moving into our house with 3 little kids while all of this was happening and it’s been stressful not to have a counter, months after we expected it to be done. I rarely write negative reviews because there are usually two sides to a story, but I am having a very hard time seeing his side here. If he contacts us and makes things right before we’ve made other arrangements I will take this down, but I’m not getting my hopes up."
"I don’t think he knows how to read a measuring tape. He messed up the sizes of our counter tops twice now. I’m so over it."
"Paul created a beautiful butcher block counter top for our camper van. It is made with heartwood birch and ties in beautifully with our modern industrial theme. We found Paul to be personable, very reasonable with his pricing, fast service, and an all round good guy to work with. We highly recommend him."
