"I took my daughter to see Dr. Jackson for coughing, wheezing, and difficulty breathing. She was given tests for the flu, COVID, and strep, which were reported to be negative. Upon entry into the room Dr. Jackson looked at her, smirked, and asked if she was still feeling dizzy. Apparently during her last visit, she had reported feeling as such. I was not present during that visit. She replied yes and Dr. Jackson said aww, again smirking and asking if she was journaling it, to which she replied yes, and Dr. Jackson asked is that why you are here? She said no and began telling her she had been coughing and had thrown up a few times. Dr. Jackson asked if she was throwing up because of a stomach issue or coughing. She stated she was coughing so hard she threw up. Dr. Jackson began by looking at her throat and observed drainage. She then listened to her chest. Dr. Jackson then asked which school She went to, She replied telling her which one she went to. Dr. Jackson then told her that she (Dr. Jackson) had seen several kids from Norman, and Moore, and it was "going around." It was at this time I felt it necessary to attempt to give Dr. Jackson some additional information which I felt was important, and might be of value to Dr. Jackson in her assessment. The information I attempted to relay was that I, had recently had very similar symptoms, and being stubborn had let it go on too long, requiring me to go to the ER and admitted for pneumonia. Before I could finish, Dr. Jackson stated "pneumonia is not contagious.". I informed her I'm aware of that and she continued to be condescending, saying that pneumonia is a result of, to which I stated pneumonia is simply fluid in the lung can be caused by virus, bacteria, even smoke inhalation, I'm aware of what it is. Again, I tried to inform Dr. Jackson of my condition as it might pertain to my daughter, as we live together etc. I told Dr. Jackson that mine was the result of a bacterial infection. Dr. Jackson, was dismissive, and stated well I'm not concerned about a bacterial infection, as she doesn't have a fever. I then informed Dr. Jackson, that I never had a fever and had in fact became septic, and still had no fever. Dr Jackson stated "I find that very hard to believe”, and then, what I imagine was her attempt to be playful, whispered to my daughter "that's weird, real weird, he's weird". I told Dr. Jackson so not having a fever doesn't mean she does not have an infection. Dr. Jackson then stated well she's younger and younger people are more resilient. She then asked her if she was having trouble breathing and she said yes. Dr. Jackson then stated well this is hard to explain but she might say she's having a hard time breathing but I don't. That is when I stopped her and said your right that is going to be hard to explain. Especially when someone breathes everyday and knows how it feels and knows when it's difficult. I think we are done here and left the office. The lack of concern, empathy, and the condescending attitude from the onset of this appointment is of great concern. My only goal is/was my daughter's health. It would stand to reason that the more information a Doctor has the better they can treat the patient. Our family will not be coming back to this office period. My only reason for writing this is to make families aware of the situation in hopes no one else is treated in way, and receives the care their children deserve."
"Just called to make my newborn an appointment and the lady on the phone asked me if I agreed with their vaccine policy I told her I would like to discuss vaccines before I agree to anything. She then tells me that she does not think that we would be a good fit for this doctor. All because I want to know what is going into my child's body before agreeing to anything. I was a patient here as a child and so was my 11 year old daughter when Dr. Khuls was there but I will never go there nor will i ever recommend it to anyone. As a mother I should have the option to discuss vaccines and my child should not get denied as a patient because of it."
"I called this office to establish care for my nonverbal son, with the objective of receiving a referral so he could receive speech therapy. Unfortunately, they could not see any new patients with Medicaid UNLESS they were newborns. I understand if scheduling doesn’t allow for new patients, but discriminating based off of insurance makes me feel as though money is the main focus of the practice. Because my 6yr old wouldn’t be getting vaccines every couple months like a newborn would, the practice would be missing out on a lot of money. It seems that’s the preoccupation of this practice and many others in Norman. This feels discriminatory and classist."
"My kids have been seeing Dr. West a few years now, and we love her! We always have the best experience! We were just there recently with strep throat. There is a nurse that works for Dr. West that always calls us back, she has short brown hair and her name is Shay. She is always so helpful, knowledgeable, patient, kind and cheerful! My kids love her because she makes the doctor fun when sometimes it does not feel fun! Thank you for being such a good nurse to all my kiddos Shay!"
"I’ve been coming here for a while, the practice has gotten much bigger. I’m not sure if the nurses are stressed but they are becoming rude. Dr. West’s nurse has changed a few times but the short brown hair nurse makes little rude remarks then smiles like it would make it better. Not sure if that’s her personality but it’s not necessary lady. She’s also rude to my husband and a few of my friends also whose children also see Dr. West. I’m never late or try to offend her in anyway but she gets visibly aggravated when I don’t answer her questions quick enough. We’re not dense, we get your underhanded comments lady. Really happy with my new kids doctor although I did really like Dr. West, I dread seeing that nurse."
