"I was originally referred from my primary care physician, but I was seen by Dr. Sarah West her personality is OK and welcoming but as far as her knowledge on African American indigenous people hair she has no type of knowledge of it . I felt very discriminated against because she kept calling my hairstyle braids and I kept correcting her telling her I don’t have extensions in my hair I don’t have braids in my hair. This is dreadlocks. My hair is naturally locked. She kept telling me calling it braids asking me can I wear my hair and the other style I told her no unless I shave all of my hair off. My hair has been in a natural state and been like this for 12 years as I have explained to her, I told her with natural you don’t put any chemicals or any heat. She insisted and kept asking me do I put heat in my hair do I put chemicals in my hair therefore, that lets me know she was not listening to a word I was saying, and she was getting frustrated because I kept correcting her. I don’t feel as if the problem was met. I did not feel as if she has any knowledge and if you’re going to be in a practice like this, you need to have full knowledge of every ethnicity that you’re going to deal with, and not offend them because I left the office feeling offended and I felt very much offended while I was there. The assistant was very nice. She was more warming to me than Dr. West was to be honest they did give me a prescription and told me what I need to do but I just feel like it was the same regimen that my other dermatologist told me too do and nothing was affective so I will try my best and use this regimen and see if it works but as far as me coming back, I am not coming back nor will I refer anyone to her because of her lack of knowledge you always want to make everyone feel welcome, and you have to have knowledge of peoples, religious and ethnicity background and us being in the 21st-century. We should already be there , so the fact that she made me feel very offended and discriminated against. I did not feel good with the visit. I didn’t feel like she was listening to me and I am very disappointed and I’m leaving this review so we can help others and it is a shame that we do not have any African-Americans/indigenous dermatologist here in Nebraska . This needs to change."
