"Nice clean open space - you can opt to loop the old airfield up front, stroll along the flat paths on either side of the irrigation ditch (many homes along this section are pretty fancy with horses, goats or llamas), or head down to the trail in the Bosque along the Rio Grande. Contrary to other reviewers’ reports there IS a Bosque trail. From the parking lot head straight across the paved section of the arroyo, cross the ditch path, and go down to the left (heading north). There is no river trail to the right (south). The river trail goes in a loop, part of which is wooded and part of which parallels the river more closely a with a couple of offshoots that will take you to the river itself. This is a really nice section of the Bosque, especially in the fall when you often can see lots of Sandhill cranes and Canadian geese. The trail is never crowded."
"It's a very nice large park with an interesting aviation history. It has open fields, access through the Bosque to the Rio Grande, & 2 flat trails along a runoff ditch. I like to walk alone but am frequently hesitant to go, because I don't feel quite safe on my own as a woman. There are not enough people around most of the time."
"The trails are great but beware of the parking lot. I was there today between 11-12:30pm to go for a walk. When I started my car to get ready to leave for home I noticed there was something wrong with the way it sounded. I had it looked at and discovered that someone stole my catalytic converter off my car while I was out on my walk. So angry!! Just beware the next time you park your car at the Durand Open Space!"
"This is a wonderful place in the South Valley to walk. It is scenic and you can see ducks, geese and cranes fly over to the river. I walk my dog around the farm fields, and there is easy access to the bosque."
"This is a nice trail if you stay on the road. However, going into the wooded area it takes you into tall grassy areas and a lot of bugs and mosquito's. There is a river running parallel to the Rio Grande many tiny frogs, this is why there are so many mosquito's, in the cooler weather this would be the walk of a life time."
