"Be sure to arrive from HW 550 so you don't beat your car to death. You need to spend the night to get a real feel for this place. Campgrounds are nice and level with a couple that have full hookups. Be sure to reserve ahead bc half of the campgrounds are closed off due to a rock slide off the surrounding cliffs! Be sure to expect to hike to get the real experience. Climb to the ridge above Pueblo Benito, fantastic!"
"This is a cool place to visit. The most notable thing is location. If you are planning on visiting, you need to know that you will have to access the park via several miles of dirt road. The road is in decent condition when dry, but it may be difficult when wet. The park has several ancient sites to visit. There is a loop road that will take you by the sites. The hiking trails to the sites are fairly mild and short, approximately 1 to 2 miles. You will see several ruins and pictographs along the way. Plan to spend several hours here."
"Absolutely incredible experience. Yes it’s true, it’s quite a trek to get there and the road is awful, but once you’re there, the journey is worth every shake, rattle and roll. The history of the ancient Puebloan communities is something everyone should see. The ruins are breathtaking! These people were very smart. It took a lot of intelligence to create these architectural and engineering marvels. I left feeling forever grateful for their existence and continued presence in our world."
"The park is beautiful. The ruins are a site to see. We stayed at the Gallo campground. The facilities were amazing, potable water to wash dishes water for water bottles. The camp hosts were very nice and knowledgeable as were the staff in the park. Would highly recommend a trip down here.there is no cellphone service in the park or campground l, however the visitor center does have wifi. We were able to connect to that to check in with our dog sitter and family."
"It's Chaco. If you are super interested in Pueblo Indian ruins like I am then a visit to Chaco is mandatory. Can be hot so bring plenty of water. Quite a few miles of dirt road to get there ranging from super well maintained to reasonably well maintained. Any normal clearance car or mini-van can make it in dry conditions but respect the shoulders of the road. They are soft and have deep ditches. Stopped for one poor guy in a camper-van who had dropped a tire off the side of the road and into the ditch and he was not getting out of it without a winch and help. I did not have the equipment to help and a tow truck was already in route in case you're wondering."
