Artistic Exchange Dance Studio

"Artistic Exchange was a breath of fresh air for our family. My children have thrived at this studio. It is their home away from home. We were involved in 2 other dance studios here in Dickinson over the years before finally making the switch. The studio is well run and organized. All of the staff are adults with dance training and a passion for dance. They understand how to teach/run a class with even the youngest of dancers. While in class the dancers are taught the proper names to each step/move. The teachers do not act like dictators they treat each student with respect and kindness without letting the children “run” the class. The younger students aren’t forced to sit out of class like other studios because mom or dad forgot to put their hair in a ponytail/dress them in “uniform”. All of the costumes and music chosen for students are appropriate as well. We have never had any issues with tuition/fees not getting paid due to people not pulling tuition or forgetting to cash checks and we have never been “over charged” for classes/supplies like we have had happen at other studios in town. Megan truly does a great job running her studio and all of her staff are fantastic. If you are looking for a dance studio Artistic Exchange is the place to go. Your children will thrive here!!"

The studio offers a variety of options for all ages along with several dance styles. Several of the teachers have danced professionally in NY, Mn along with others I do not recall. Our community is very blessed to have hard working, knowledgeable and talented studio teachers to work with a variety of skills in their classes. "ABSOLUTELY DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY! Took an adult dance class. Was one of only 2 students. The “instructor”, a term I would use loosely, due to lack of any instruction, took almost 10 minutes of class to pick music. Then, gave I guess what he considered a warm-up, but it was not. It was lazy posing in a mirror with no counting of actual beats/music. He constantly changed his mind on what he wanted to do and didn’t even tell us what we were doing combination wise, just a sort of “watch me and do as I do” type setting. He constantly changed feet and counts, making it confusing to follow. I was given no technique or terminology regarding the class and left without learning anything. In addition to the lack of knowledge, there is also a lack of safety. We were told to do jumps and fan kicks without any proper warmup. Not to mention the instructor practically laughing at us the entire time we were doing combinations, which seemed quite unprofessional. After posing and being taught basically nothing, I was then told to improv some dance. I came here to be taught a class, not to be told to freestyle. I wanted to learn something from class but left feeling like I was just scammed. The instruction is severely lacking in knowledge, talent, and professionalism. I am worried for future students who will not be taught proper technique and safety. I am lucky to have previous experience, therefore I was able to safely take the class, but still ended up with some issues because I still tried to follow whatever the instructor was trying to do (which was an array of random movements and posing), but I can only imagine how future students will feel when they hurt themselves due to improper training. Please do not waste money or time. You will end up seriously hurt."
