"We reserved the group site for scouts in August 2023. It is tents only. Easily accommodated 8 families, though with the incline and rough terrain, it was hard to find good sites for all the tents. Pavillion has a dirt floor, making it hard to clean spilled food, so be careful. The lights were out, but management quickly got new bulbs. Power and water on site. Bring a hose to easily put out the fire pit! Pavillion has several bats at night through the morning, so clean the 7 tables to avoid guano before eating. Last year we were near trains. Much quieter here, though we could hear the road. (Not much traffic though.) Great view of the stars and milkyway, so it is far enough from Colorado Springs to not have bad light pollution. Group site is 2 min walk from bathroom, so it may be hard to hold it for little kids first thing in the morning! Trees surrounding site and Pavillion give good shade during heat of the day. Glad for Pavillion when rain hit hard! Bring bug spray. There are mosquitoes this year. Lots of little frogs for kids to catch and play with. Don't bring low-riding car. Dirt roads have ruts from water drainage."
"Golden Eagle was our first stop on our camping journey through Colorado with our bumper pull camper. Knowing where to turn and go is a little challenging in the dark so I definitely recommend arriving while the sun is up. Upon arrival we stopped to read the Map where a group of camp hosts were sitting. No one at that stop offered to help. However, as we rounded to the next road there was a lady that met us and who was extremely helpful and nice. The campground itself is pretty nice. There's a dog park and a lake with plenty of wildlife to see. The actual lots are not really even so leveling everything up took extra time. Overall the campground is nice and we would stay here again."
"Traveling all the way from Florida, looking for primitive/tent camping. Made a reservation for late check in by phone call, easy set up and polite staff, about $40 a night with fresh water spout and electric box. However, our information slip wasn’t posted so it was hard to find our spot at first. Decent amount of trees between most spots if you’re interested in hanging a hammock. There are plenty of woods around to collect firewood without chopping down a single tree. One camp staff drove to my spot and acted like a Karen not believing I brought all my own fire wood because I read the rules saying you can’t collect firewood. Kind of silly if you ask me. But aside from that one moment, a BEAUTIFUL view of the mountains. Great bathrooms and showers with HOT water. 1 mile away from an army base that flies helicopters and occasional ordnance discharge if you don’t mind the sound of American freedom. 4/5, always room for improvement"
"Amazing view of the mountain when you look out you tent located by the pond the have.First night they had a nasty storm come through and were very understanding to rebook us for the next night due to the time we arrived . Second light winds became very high and our tent kept collapsing. Kent helped my twins and I find a place to sleep for the night . The rest of our stay for the 3 nights was amazing , everyone was so friendly made our stay there very memorable away from Canada. Thank you from the Buchanan family"
"We are “green” when it comes to camping, so we picked this campground to bring our family to on our first camping trip for Memorial Day. We enjoyed ourselves so much, we’re coming back for Labor Day. Amenities are great for families looking for a quick trip to get out of the city. Some people’s reviews here are just high standards. There are trees around every campsite, tent and trailer included. Will there be mud if it rains? Yes. Is there a pond that supplies mosquitoes? Likely. This is a campground with bathrooms/showers/laundry, trails, a playground, a small office/gift shop. A grocery store is 4 miles away. It’s not for those looking to rough it at a remote camp spot nor is it for those looking to glamp. The only downside I see for those with big trailers- the road around the site is not fully paved asphalt but broken up bits of blacktop and gravel. During a rainy season it may be hard to get in and out. As for us! Tent camping here for a few nights with our kids was perfect. We like spot 137."
