Reviews
"Exceptional place to be - very welcoming."
"Please understand that community service is what makes civilization possible. This planet is great because of the selfless acts its population gives to those in times of need. My son is learning Aikido at Nippon-Kan not only to use his hands to defend against combatant, but to use his mind to understand that combatant before they ever meet--he will not need to use his hands if he is successful. This is not the art of avoidance, this is a martial art, hands on, staff, sword. But I think there is much more here than self-defense. You are exposed to a culture that thrives on community. They are gracious to serve the Denver-area communities and others world-wide. I hope my son will have as much love for his communtity. Thank you to the entire staff and students running this dojo."
"Nippon Kan is the largest traditional Japanese dojo in the Rocky Mountain Region. They offer many classes, each with different instructors, so that you can choose the class and instructor that best suit your learning style. Aikido is known as a "soft" martial art, and since I have been practicing Aikido, I have had no serious injuries. Aikido has improved my balance, posture, mental attitude and overall level of well-being. I have also made many good friends at Nippon Kan through volunteer opportunities and the practice of Aikido. I recommend this dojo to anyone who is interested in learning a martial art. As with almost anything, you will get back what you put into your learning experience at Nippon Kan."
"I've now studied at Nippon-Kan for about 5 years and have enjoyed my experience immensely. Homma Sensei has provided a dojo that I've found to be unmatched in my travels around North America and throughout Europe. The instructors here are quite diverse (and highly experienced). I've found that in that diversity I've been able to find MY aikido and the teaching methods and instructors that resonate with me. Mind you it's very unlike Karate where we all learned the same strike and the same kick the same way (nothing wrong with that, it's just different). Here, we each work to find the way that comes naturally to each of us and that is far more satisfying than replicating the actions of a single instructor. I've further enjoyed being part of a dojo that gives so much back to our community (approaching 60,000 meals served at the rescue mission, 19 years of service to Denver Parks/Rec, 250 kg of rice month to a number of orphanages across the globe,...). I highly recommend Nippon-Kan to all those interested in Aikido and humanitarian endeavors."
"I've been practicing Aikido for over ten years; when I went to Nippon-kan to check out the classes they told me that I had to wait outside in the snow until class started. When I finally got on their mat I found that the higher ranking members were driven by their ego, and treated not only me, but many of the lower belts very rude."
