About the Business
Welcome to the Denver Historical Fencing Academy located at 2059 South Broadway in Denver, Colorado, United States. Our institution specializes in teaching historical fencing techniques from the renaissance and medieval periods, as practiced by the old masters who used fencing in duels, street fights, and on the battlefield.
Thanks to the hard work of scholars, historians, and athletes, the manuscripts of old fencing masters have been deciphered and brought back to life. You can now learn and participate in historical fencing in a safe and controlled environment, experiencing the combat sport as it was intended.
Our instructors come from diverse fencing backgrounds to cater to your individual needs. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced fencer, our classes will help you become a skilled sword fighter. "Excellent community, great place to get hit with a sword."
"I had attended pre-covid, and was waiting for things to settle down on that front before returning. Unfortunately during that time the club seems to have gone off the rails, with new rules trying to control aspects of your personal life - like who you can date. It's a sword fighting club, not the military. They also don't seem to get the difference between being welcoming to everyone vs. choosing who to include in the club based on superficial characteristics. One is inclusive, the second is actually discrimination and probably illegal. From the beginner class email: "After the application closes, DHFA will then review the applications and select folks based on diversity and ensuring DHFA maintains inclusivity.""
"DHFA is full of amazing people. As a beginner everyone is willing to help and ensure you feel welcome. They have extra gear so you can get started without breaking the bank. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to dip their toes into the HEMA world. Be careful though, you might enjoy it!"
"This is an excellent club full of excellent people! The club culture is healthy and all-inclusive and the instructors are beyond capable! They take their craft seriosly and inspire confidence in their students! At first I didn't think that this was something I would be interested in, but when I joined this club I loved it! I've made some great friends and I always look forward to every class! If you want to learn historical fencing and be part of a fun and inclusive community, then this is the place for you!"
