"My son had a second seizure this last October, which warranted follow-up with neurology. Despite my reservations of going through Children’s based on past experiences, since my son had been hospitalized and seen there through his seizure, I thought it might be easiest to book the recommended EEG through them. We were able to get in within a month, and the EEG went well. The technician who did it was personable, reassuring and kind. She told us that we would see the results first, but we would hear from a doctor within 3-5 business days. We got the results the next day, which came back abnormal. I’m not a neurologist or expert by any means, and so we sat with this results worried for a week. The fifth business day came and went, so I called and talked to a nurse. He seemed somewhat confused and had me on the phone for awhile before he told me that I needed to have our primary care doctor call their neurology team to be able to get an appt, which seemed weird. Our doctor called right away, and she was told the doctor couldn’t talk to her because my son wasn’t “established” because they’d only do a phone consult when he was in the ER and didn’t see him in person. Fortunately our doctor was able to finally get through to someone, and they kept saying that he wasn’t established so he couldn’t book an appointment. So, why would they recommend he have an EEG, tell us someone would follow-up, and then make it nearly impossible to talk to anyone? When all was said and done, it was clear no one was planning to call us or follow-up, which is pretty terrible when you have a child who has had two seizures and then an abnormal EEG. There were some other messages relayed to us that felt impersonal and uncaring, though I don’t feel it necessary to go into those details. Somehow, our doctor was able to get through to them and they agreed to try and get him scheduled and bypass the months long waitlist to even be able to request an appointment. By this point, I was so frustrated by their lack of care and attention to detail, so I called another pediatric neurology clinic who was so much easier to book with. Children’s did call the next day to book an appointment about a month out, but after seeing it was with a PA who just graduated, we have decided it’s better to just go to the other clinic, which is with a more skilled neurologist. I know nothing about the PA and she might be great, but after all our negative experiences, it felt we were on the back burner there. I am sure there are many who have good experiences here, but I wanted to share ours to let others know that Children’s had a lot of walls up and red tape, and you may easily fall through the cracks."
"Was given a referral to childrens and was told there was a 10 month wait.. i have called several times to make sure my child was still on the list and to see how much longer it would take.. I called again today it has been 7 months now, only to be told that they didn't have a referral and my child would be now put on the back of the list for another 10 month wait.. This is absolutely irresponsible of children's.. I was told today i would be getting a call back after they investigate and that it would be today.. That office has closed and no call back.. I will go somewhere else at this point.. What a shame they used to be good, reliable, and professional.."
"My daughter has had the best care with the neuro team. She had a very lengthy surgery and an extended stay in the hospital. We couldn't have asked for better surgeons and nurses. We were always informed of what was going on and how to care going forward. Hospital room was very clean and food was great. Reading over the other reviews I would like to address them. 1st off yes, it does take a while to get an appointment but you have to understand that these surgeons are some of the BEST in the country and everyone wants to see them not just people from CO. 2nd my daughter has had 2 surgery here and both times we were told siblings could not visit. They don't want to bring in germs that could hurt the children that are in the hospital and so they can move around the hospital freely."
"This review is not about the doctors, as we’ve never seen one. It is to make people aware of the state of pediatric specialty care in the state of Colorado and let them know this is not normal and not how it is in other states. I need to get my infant seen by a pediatric neurologist but everyone in Colorado has a months long waiting list. I am currently on a 3-4 month waiting list JUST to be called to make an appointment- who knows when the appointment would be. I asked why this was the case for all the specialists in the state and the lady tried to tell me it was healthcare everywhere. I decided to test that theory. I have family in a large city in Texas and figured we could go visit if I can get in with someone there. I called up the pediatric neurologist in that city and had an appointment immediately. Not everyone has the luxury to travel. However, please know the insane waitlists in this state are not the norm and you can find care in other states if you look. If my daughter requires longterm care we will be leaving the state permanently because I cannot fathom dealing with scheduling here on a regular basis."
"Staff is nice but don't plan on bringing other siblings they will send them away. We are 9 hrs from home and they didn't mention to us that my daughter wouldn't be able to stay while my son is in here so my husband and daughter have to find a place to stay. Very irritating. Seems like a clean place but can't get past the stupid rules that should be said prior to setting up an appointment."
