"I enjoyed the training I received here. It's a great training program. Plane availability is about a week out (as of Feb 2024), which isn't bad at all. And the planes are very well kept. I took 1 star off for pricing. It's one of the most expensive places above avg. You're paying close to $300 per flight hour (plane rental, CFI, and +3%) in a single engine plane. I took the 2nd star off because the cost per hour for a CFI went up, and to my knowledge, the CFIs did not get a raise. Maybe it's coming, but when you pay $80 dollars per hour and the CFI is getting less than half, it just doesn't seem right to me. Plus, they added a 3% charge if you use your card. I am only switching flight schools because of the cost. This is a good flight school it just costs too much for me."
"I'll start by saying everyone here that I've spoken with comes across as very polite and generally helpful though it seems it can be difficult to get responses to email sent to administrative staff at times. That said, if you're looking for a Part 61 course, stay as far away from McAir as possible! If you're unsure about Part 61 vs Part 141 then visit a legit Part 61 school first. I did my research and felt Part 61 was the right option for me for a number of reasons. I went on-site for an initial appt to take a tour of the facilities, during which I was told multiple times that Part 61 was no problem at all. The facilities and equipment looked pretty good, so I decided to go ahead and sign up then and there. Completed the docs as a Part 61 applicant and promptly scheduled for orientation, and told that I could sign up for Ground School with their partner Kings School or another Ground School of my choice. Within a couple days I got an email from Flight Schedule Pro saying I was enrolled in the Part 141 program. Spent the next 2+ weeks trying to get that corrected yet kept getting the run-around, and finally was told Part 61 was only available to those who get a very rare approval from the Director of Academic Operations who would not respond to multiple emails simply asking for clarification and correction. It took me nearly withdrawing from the school to actually get a phone call from him. Once on the phone he was very polite and encouraged me to try their Part 141 program because it would still fit my needs and I agreed to that since he came across as very reasonable and polite. Fast forward another week, and I find out the Online Ground School I've been working on for several weeks at this point will not work, and Part 141 students are required to buy a physical starter kit from their office to register for the Kings Online Ground School. So all that time and money spent on the original Ground School I signed up for after signing up at McAir was completely wasted. BOTTOM LINE: This is a decent school with good facilities and equipment for Part 141 students, but those looking for a Part 61 course should stay far away unless you want to light some time and money on fire... No clue why they can't just be honest from the start and say "We're a Part 141 only school" UPDATE: I'm 5 lessons into the Part 141 program, now and all is going well. I have a good instructor, the equipment and facilities are nice, and scheduling is pretty easy (though availability inside of 2 weeks is almost non-existent, but that's to be expected anywhere). Overall having a positive experience now as a Part 141 student, and this would be a 5 star review if it weren't for the wasted time and money at the beginning. So would encourage others to sign up here, just be informed."
"I did my PPL here and this is a generally a good flight school. They have good instructors and newer planes. They are also a part 141 school. On the other hand, their cost predictions are low and getting financing credited to an account is a pain for a process. Getting scheduled for progress checks seemed to be an issue because it would take a week or 2 for another instructor to pick it up. They could’ve also standardized the progress checks to make it more like a check ride. Overall I’m glad I learned here and will likely pursue another rating in the future. The only things keeping me from rating it 5 stars are the improper money/time expectations and the progress check issues."
"My husband takes lessons here and has had nothing but a great experience and great things to say about it...he says if you go to take lessons here, you won't regret it. They have a great friendly staff that will do everything they can to accommodate your level of flying. He rented a plane and took us flying now that he is licensed and it was such a great experience! The plane was clean, comfortable, and worked great (thank goodness). Since it is a far it was nice that they have restrooms you can use and we were able to rent a headset for $10 for our son since we only own 2 pairs. Loved how they were decorated for Halloween in the pilot shop and how everyone who has taken lessons writes their name and date on the back room wall."
"Completed my private pilot training at McAir in 2018 and though I was satisfied and had nothing but great experiences with McAir, I decided to pursue instrument and commercial training at a much larger, nationwide program in Dallas. Though all of my training up to this point had been 141, while attending the “name brand” school I felt a lack of personal attention or interest in MY success. A combination of unexpected life events and COVID issues forced me to discontinue my training there which, fortunately, brought me back to McAir to finish up. After having experienced other facilities, fleets and programs, I feel that I am where I want and need to be. The staff is friendly and helpful, the instructors are committed to student’s safety and proficiency, and the fleet is immaculate! It may be somewhat more expensive than other operations in the metro area, but well worth it. I recommend McAir to those that I care about and somewhere else to those that I don’t."
