"Pharmacy and Hospital review: Pharmacy: Short version: after 30 days of waiting, checking and rechecking at the pharmacy in person for the prescription, we got a denial letter stating that the pharmacy did not submit the needed information and so we have waited all this time to be denied. Long version: We submitted a prescription for a shower chair in person on Jan 18th...the pharmacy didn't submit it to the insurance company until Jan 25th, Feb 8th we went to check on it and were told we'd get a call, we did not. Feb 13th we went back and were told the tech is there every other day, it wasn't ready, and to check back in two days. Feb 15th we went back and were told 'more information was needed and was submitted on the 13th, so check back next week.' We have Medicaid, which takes 10-14 business days to approve this particular prescription, but it's already been 20, and we still don't even have confirmation of approval because of the pharmacy personnel. I feel we have been more than patient, but this is ridiculous. Feb 21 the denial letter arrived staying that the pharmacy had not submitted the necessary information (which the tech told us and said she corrected) so a month later, no shower chair. The letter also says that the pharmacy was notified of this decision, so now we wait to see if they intend to resubmit this or let it go. The hospital: the staff are very friendly and helpful, but when my husband went in on January 17, 2024 for a hip replacement surgery, FOUR members of his medical team thought it was a knee surgery, including ot. The after care pain relief was prescribed without checking with us and he was given meds that are counter indicated and don't work for him, so was much more uncomfortable than he could have been. Overall, it was a very scary and trying experience, and we will not be returning to, or recommending, Death Valley medical center to anyone. On the plus side, everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful, and we got to visit with a therapy dog, which was wonderful. The food options are awesome. There were reasonably comfortable accommodations for me to stay the night with my husband after surgery. Their outpatient services, imaging and PT, are wonderful, as well. Good customer service doesn't make up for scary medical experiences. It's too easy for life changing mistakes to be made by an irresponsible or misinformed medical team, including the pharmacy."
"I have stage 1 breast cancer. I had to have surgery and radiation. During that time no one was answering my questions! I saw Dr firas Muwalla for after care for cancer. One I couldn’t understand a word he spoke. Two I just wanted to see the before and after X-rays. He blew me off. Three I’m scared has it is about cancer. Thank god I found a cancer doctor that explained and showed me the results. I’m blessed that I found a reasonable doctor at St Joseph hospital. If you reading this please don’t go to Platte Valley hospital. You won’t get any answers!"
"We lost a dear friend last week due to a cardiac event. He was taken to Platte Valley Medical Center. We cannot thank everyone enough for the gallant effort shown by the staff that cared for him and the compassion that was shown to his family. Chaplin Kim and cardiologist Dr. Rabor were amazing along with all the other nurses and staff we dealt with. My wife has been in healthcare for 33 years and we have made several trips to your faciliy, she is always so impressed by the professionalism and kindness given us. We will continue to be huge supporters of your hospital and thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the care given us. John and Rhinda"
"My mom (age 76) had knee surgery here on 4/3/2023. She stayed overnight for one night following the surgery. Everyone she interacted with was friendly and caring. They made her feel like they really cared for her well being. They assessed and managed her pain. The room was comfortable. The couch converted into a small bed that I used to stay the night with her. Thank you."
"We took our 4 year old in last night and the staff was all so kind and caring! Our nurse, Carolyn, was soooooo sweet to our kiddo, the people in Triage were so kind and even came back to check on our kiddo. His PA, Noel, was so patient while our kid just chatted away. Even the facilities lady who popped in took the time to tell my son not to be scared. When we left the whole staff said goodbye to him, even folks who didn't even have him as a patient. Even though he wasn't super sick like most of their patients, the staff still took great care of him (and us). I just love this hospital - every time we have come here for various visits (ER, maternity, tests), we always get such great care. I truly feel like the staff here really care and take the time to make sure you feel comfortable about your care (or the care of your loved ones). I wish I had noted every person's name, but I want to thank the ED for their care yesterday. You guys always take care of us!"
