"Firing Della Curry for providing a first grader a "free" lunch and a overall total of 20 for the year she worked there is totally insane. You throw away food daily. Why let it go to waste when it could go to the children. Does the staff pay for their lunch if they eat in the cafeteria? Better yet does the staff eat a cheese sandwich and get a milk? Prisoners in the jail system eat better than a milk and cheese sandwich. Your school and school district should be ashamed for the action done to Della Curry. She is a hero and should be treated as such. Schools are supposed to be teaching kids for their future. She showed compassion and caring and that's what kids need to learn these days. Appears that the administration of the school district forgot that along the way."
"I do not have children in this school. Though I am speaking out for the amazing person that lost her job for feeding a hungry child. She is a hero in my eyes. What are you people thinking?? I honestly thought that schools were suppose to protect children from harm and if you think that letting a child go hungry is not harmful than you are in the wrong profession. You call it policy, I call it IGNORANCE.."
"How dare you fire your kitchen manager for providing a free lunch to a starving first grader! It's sick, and you're contributing to the horrors of the public school system that's creating a generations of uncaring, corrupted children by destroying our moral obligation to love and take care of others."
"This school fired an employee because she gave food to a hungry child. Had she not given the food, it would have been thrown out. The district claims they are following policy; they might be; however, they have a choice in how to implement their progressive discipline. Wouldn't it make sense to look at the bigger problem? Students are attending their schools and they are hungry... the problem isn't a near minimum wage employee giving out food that is going to be tossed. Shame on you Dakota Valley Elementary School Administration for not backing your employees!"
"FAIL!!! I saw you fired an employee for feeding a hungry first grader. It seems you have a process to fire employees if they have empathy for a hungry child but no room in your bureaucracy for figuring out how to provide food for obviously hungry children. If a child does not have a lunch an adult in their life failed. If a school does not have the flexibility to help the child get a simple lunch, the school fails. I also saw the explanation on your website, blaming it on your food service policies. I does not matter which department in a company screws up, the RESULTS are still the goal. Cherry Creek SD and Dakota Fail together. Shame on all involved. Crystal"
