"I haven't been to the Horizon since I was a little kid. My mom was the bartender for the owner, Al, back in the early 60s. She was a white woman in a black establishment and the customers all loved her. She used to serve Floyd Little and the other broncos players. She learned how to cook the best bbq ribs from a cajun man who was the chef. She loved the Horizon and I have thought about it so much over the last 6 decades. So glad that it's still a part of that neighborhood and the city."

"The bar itself is extremely chill. The customers are mostly older and extremely friendly and inviting but... and it's a BIG but... they have one bartender that works 6 days so they are only open from 2pm to 10pm (nothing to do with Covid, just horribly managed). The Sunday bartender is slow and shows that he really doesn't want to be there. Now... the kitchen...ABSOLUTELY WORST KITCHEN EVER!!! They are open when they want to be. Sometimes they open at 4, sometimes 5, mostly (especially on the weekends) they don't bother to show up at all. It's hit or miss. The food is good (most days) but you'll never get the same flavor twice and even if they are open... they might refuse to serve you simple because they are busy. The staff for both the bar (every day but Sunday) and kitchen are awesome but when you try HARD to support black owned and women run businesses... they make it nearly impossible. Call first... if the kitchens is open, the food is always worth it. Either way... the drinks are reasonably priced and good...but it is a beer and whiskey bar only. Don't expect anything special... not even bombs as they don't carry most mixers or products like Redbull."
