The Wild Animal Sanctuary
About the Business
The Wild Animal Sanctuary, located at 2999 County Road 53 in Keenesburg, Colorado, is a unique park and tourist attraction that operates four facilities in the United States. With a mission to rescue animals from horrific captive situations and rehabilitate them to live freely in large natural habitats, the Sanctuary cares for over 950 animals including Lions, Tigers, Bears, Wolves, Jaguars, Cheetahs, and more.
The facilities in Colorado and Texas provide a safe haven for animals who have never experienced the freedom to run on grass or sleep on natural substrate. Through specialized rehabilitation programs, each animal's life is changed for the better, allowing them to live and roam freely with others of their own kind.
Visitors are welcome to explore the Sanctuary outside of Denver, Colorado, which is open 7 days a week. The Refuge in Southeast Colorado and the Wild Horse Refuge near Craig, Colorado are also available for visits by appointment. Additionally, the Sanctuary in Texas near Fort Worth is open to Active Supporters on special occasions.
Partnering with FreeWill, the Sanctuary offers opportunities to create a will, name a guardian for pets, and leave a legacy to support their mission—all at no cost. In just 20 minutes, supporters can gain peace of mind knowing their loved ones and the animals at the Sanctuary are protected.

"What a fantastic place to see! Earlier in the morning provided us with lots of animals storing, walking around and just soaking up the sun. We say new baby foxes, tigers, lions, ligers, bears and a variety of wolf, coyotes, and other beautiful cats. Don’t forget to look for the camels."
"Bought a Family Plan and took three of the grandkids. Will be back to see more in the near future. Pretty cool when the lions started roaring. Clean and warm restrooms. Sorry, no dogs."
"This beat my expectations. We had family friends in town and were looking for things to do with a 13 year old. We decided on the Wild Animal Sanctuary and went at 4:30pm because we heard going closer to dusk you had the chance to hear the animals start to rawr - and we absolutely did (it sounded unreal). The prices are obviously more than going to a zoo but we all felt fine with that since the money went to a good cause. This sanctuary is helping rescue so many abused animals. Our group did bring binoculars but I saw so much without them I probably only used them 3 times - but I imagine this can differ by times of day, etc. Amazing place."
"*Must have plan for binoculars* you will not make the most of your ticket/experience unless you either bring your own or pay a few bucks to rent them there. You’ll see SO much more with binoculars/monocular. I seriously cannot imagine doing this visit without magnification. Please keep in mind this is not a zoo. The animals are peacefully living in their massive natural habitats. It’s an amazing experience to see so many animals now given the best life possible. I’d recommend waiting until kids are at an age for a 2 hour attention span with animals farish away. They have awesome accessibility and offer motorized power chairs to rent for those who might struggle with the walk."
