"My 89 yr old mother has a Singer machine that she bought a couple years before I was born. I will be 65 in October. I am staying with her for awhile and while she sewing, there was a smell coming out of it when she would run it. It was like something was burning up in the motor. We took it to DSM Sewing Machine Co and the woman there told us they were back logged about two weeks. I could see the disappointment in moms eyes. Mom sews American Girl Doll clothes and gives them away. When we were younger, she sewed Barbie Doll clothes. There is never a day that machine doesn't run. The lady said there was a $15 charge to get it looked at with in a couple days. Mom gladly wrote the check out to get her machine back sooner. A couple days later we got a phone call from Sam, one of their technicians and he said the odor could be from some oil getting in the motor, or an excessive amount of dust built up in the motor, the rest of it was fine for its age. Sam said he blew out the dust and checked the operation of the machine and found nothing else. I picked up the machine and brought it home and mom said it ran like a new one, she even said the speed was back to where it used to be. THANK YOU Sam for putting such a big smile on my mom's face. OH, there was no charge for the work he done, which was a big bonus, she was worried it was not going to be repairable because of its age."

"My grandfather ordered me a sewing machine and several other accessories from the Des Moines Sewing Machine Company for my graduation present. The store is only open Mon-Fri 8am-5pm, so if you work everyday good luck getting in to get anything there. Since my grandfather does not live in town, he ordered everything over the phone. One item he ordered was a pair of scissors. However, Des Moines Sewing Machine Company was completely out of stock. He told them to go ahead and charge his card for the scissors because he knew I wouldn't be into the store for a couple weeks. Since they were out of stock, they did not charge his card for it and I did not receive a pair of scissors. They never told my grandfather that I was not going to receive a pair of scissors. Instead, I had to go back and forth talking to my grandfather and the Des Moines Sewing Machine Company to figure out why I was not getting a pair of scissors. Plus when I went to pick everything up, they forgot to give me the sewing machine case that my grandfather had paid for. I had to go back into the store a 2nd time to pick up the case. I'm not sure about the quality of products, but the service was awful. I will be going somewhere else to buy my scissors and I will be avoiding having to go back into that store at all costs."
